Yeah, maybe NOT the web site for this,
    BUT::::

With as many hotrodders here who DO LIKE the look of an old school <--(gay term!!) BOMB, I thought I would ask around....
I am NOT ----> I repeat; AM NOT, just jumping on the latest aircraft hydro bandwagon, as I already have a pump and several dumps, ( and sold A LOT during a divorce 15 years ago!!) etc. I just wanted to ask if anyone had any PERSONAL experience with them around here??? I guess I am looking for a few "contacts" to find a couple of parts I need/want.(in my price range, instead of the price gouging that seems to be happening) And figured if someone knew about this stuff here would be the place!!
Yeah I have hit "back bumper" with a couple of my rides in the past BUT that is NOT what I am after here!! I am wanting to do an aircraft set up as " traditional lowrider" as possible in my '47 Chevy.
Old pumps, dumps, slowdowns, a couple of pressure equalizers, etc.
Hey, if anyone does not like this post, because it is so off topic I WILL delet it if wanted. If it is cool here, please post away and let me know. If you have pictures, I would like that too, maybe some others around here would be more "tolerable" of the Low scene, if they saw what could be done when a clown is not trying to destroy his quarter panels with a couple of flicks of a switch, but by having a nice clean Pesco/Adel set up with that cool pressure equalizer grumling sound?!?!?!?!?!? Thanks in advance, Ken

Been a member of LIL for years, just to much DRAMA there, and not enough people to "help out others" with out charging/gouging, BUT yeah I am on there...Thanks,
glad you like 'em. I think I sold 4/5 pumps, lots of dumps, zig zags valves, probably all for the price if ONE pump these days, back when I went thru my divorce!!!!! It was a spendy one!

  4. What about Los Boulevardos.com? I think some of those guys are into the older traditional lowriders. Graverobber here on the H.A.M.B. probably could steer you in the right direction, too.

I've worked in aviation for the past 36 years and refused to use any aircraft related electrical components on a car.

Walk away from the aircraft hydralics. If they ever let you down you are screwed. You won't find parts at a reasonable cost in a timely manner when you have to have them.

Granted it might be cheaper during the build to use them, but if they take a dump when you are out of town on a holiday weekend, your toast.

  8. Air plane hydro's are not going to work just for the simple fact that what Bill Hines used back in the day are all gone or s****ed out already. Also the new hydro fluid that is used in planes now is very acidic and can give you really bad chemical burns. Stick with what is out in the market now that all the lowrides use.

u must not be aware of how many of these setups are still around, parts around, etc..

a GOOD number of people still use these.. mostly show cars cause as stated repairs are costly and take time..

however, it seems he just wants a cruiser, a traditional one.. no reason to **** on the idea.. tahts like saying people shouldnt run magnetos, hilborns, etc cause they may be a lil more difficult..

i PRAISE the challenge takers, and i hope to see pics of this!

As Manager of Quality ***urance for an airline and a licensed A&P I am fully aware of how many of these setups are "still around". We battle daily the SUP's or suspected unapproved non-airworthy parts that are in the marketplace everyday.
I am also aware of how hard quality replacement parts in aviation can be.

It's all about parts availablity and cost in midnight dollars. An airbag or automotive hydraulic cylinder takes a dump = 100-200 max to bolt another in it's place and go. Take a surplus hydraulic aircraft cylinder and let it blow (in the middle of BFE), chances are you won't find a replacement quickly and lord only knows what you will have to give for another one. Some hydraulic actuators for airplanes cost several 1,000's of dollars.

I too enjoy seeing cars built without the use of belly ****on parts, but at some point in time, common sense should rule. Suspensions on cars should be built with a plan of 'keeping it simple' . Step outside of that envelope and if it has to be repaired then shame on you for over-engineering your project.

As stated above, great idea for show cars, bad idea for drivers.

Guys, guys, guys!!!! I am just building a street cruiser. I won't be in BFE anytime soon in my 216, with bias ply 5.20's on 13X7 supremes, so if I break down I would be close to home, but like what was said, Hilborn injectors, magnetos, etc. it's ALL the same as far as parts availility, and I fully understand that, I guess maybe my post wasn't fully clear?!? I was just looking to connect with some people around here that have some actuall life experiences with this suff (like ADEX ANDY) I have been lowriding and juicing cars for years, first car done in 1984. So I appreciate your warnings and will accept your advice, but I am not looking for that "score/stash" of parts by phishing around here with subtle hints of what I want?!?! If any of that makes sense?? I will use 2 Waterman dumps, BUT I have 5 of them --> 3 <-- for spare parts, would love true adels or even Adex's, but they are a little out of my price range, I have 1 good pump, and will eventually find another good pump, but I also have --> 2 <-- PARTS pumps so like I said I was just "asking" around. I have been on all the other boards, on LIL for years, been subscribing to LRM since '88/'89 have lots of Q-VO magazines, so I am fully aware of what is up, but also appreciate the concern you guys have too!!! Thanks, Ken

My set up installed by Ted Wells. I knew exactly what I wanted and after tons of research I ended up at his door step. I told him I needed space for the kids stuff but I realy wanted the vintage lowrider look. I coulda went with the easy stuff but wtf if I wanted easy I should own a Honda. Ted heard everything I asked for and brought it to life, Its like he was waiting for me.

What's up fellow riders, just dropping in to say hi. Google search brought me here, nice topic.

  23. I am guessing that as the volumes of oil and pressures are reasonably large that the motor takes a fair bit of current to run, looks nice set up though.

Got to admit I own one of those large Citroen estates, which have hydrualics from the factory, driven off a belt rather than an electric motor, and the valves look more like something you would find on a mechanical digger, but the result is still a car that can sit down so the body nearly touches the deck and then at a flick be up higher than many a 4X4, in Europe spare parts for the hydruaulics for these strange french machines are fairly cheap, shipping to NA would probably work out expensive due to wieght, but given the price of aircraft parts it might still be worthwhile ?

    Mercman is right.
Besides that they are not going to be 12 V anyway.

Yes it would be a problem if an old part gives out, most times a seal is the problem, but parts too worn out with excessive clearances are to be avoided. Minimize the parts you use, leave enough coil turns to drive around laid. There are a few more things to take care of, you can always carry a modern replacement part, but most guys don't carry spares as they ride around.

I can't say I have seen current riders using aircraft cylinders. I have seen them used many times 30 years ago.

A little trouble shooting knowledge and most problems can be temperately fixed on the road. If you have a front and rear setup, you are already carrying spare parts.

There are a few Pesco pumps at 12 VDC pumps, although I have never seen 12 volt Eemco motors.

I thought I would revisit this thread. That 58 is Baddd azzzz. oil, parts, seals you name it its all junk bla bla bla. The problem seems to be the new stuff lacks quality and the old stuff is old. On here we love old **** right? I have some pesco stuff. I have heard so many opinions here, there and everywhere its funny. I myself plan on a pesco setup in my 48 poncho. I have NOS pumps not worn out obviuosly. I probably wouldnt use old cylinders cuz let face it they take the most abuse and leak. New cylinders arent going to be seen on an old bomb like a 47 chev anyways right??? So why not use them? This **** is hard to find and is overpriced right now I am still needing dumps- any leads let me know. I do have some spare stuff and contacts for parts so if anyone needs help PM me

I have a couple of 24 volt solonoids left from when we took apart an old turbo prop, they are low time, let me know and i'll sell them pretty cheap. not sure if you are running single battery 12 volt or dual battery 24.

    Good Afternoon,
I am new to HAMB, and I have learned alot in the short time I have been aboard, thanks. This message is for ChopperImpala. I see that you have some Waterman dumps, and looks like you have some for spare parts. I am looking for a "pin" for one of those dumps. I understand that these dumps are not easy to come buy, but I thought I might ask if you if you could part with one. Good luck on your project, and I have some Hydro parts to trade if you are interested. Some delta dumps, some blocks, one aluminum and one steel, I think both Showtime, a chrome motor, and alot of misc that I have collected during my project. Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you.

As a retired A&P with over 50 years working with hydraulic systems, I must agree with MercDeuceMan. If you dont know what seals you have in the actators, how do you know what fluid to use? You dont want anything to do with Civilian hydraulic fluid known as "Skydrol".Nasty ****. Red fluid (5606,Mil spec) not as toxic but not found every where. You dont use car parts on an aircraft, why use aircaft parts on a car?
