oh ok so i guess back in the Xsonic days when they use to see if their cars could jump higher than a Budweiser beer bottle wasnt Gay.......lmao
Hey, hotrods are not to be built buy rule books. Who are these guys to say that hot rods don't have bags? If you look at what Barris and Winfield were doing in the mid fifties with mercs and chevy's than we would be building 2000 model chrysler 300's and lincoln continentals by the rule book. Hot rods are breaking the ruls and being an individual so build it how you like.I'll get bs fabricator to add some pics of a 51 chevy and a 54 chevy that he is building. Good luck.
Check out the stance on the model A on pinkeesrodshop.com. Maybe a help to get the gears turning with the bags.
This gives me a tired head .We are a dying breed? We should not turn on ourselves. I drive around and I rarely see any hot rods out. Who cares if you run bags, keep our hobby alive! All of these so called rules make me think I am in school again. And if you do not like my baged car I give you the middle finger with a smile. My 2 cents
I agree that bags should be used only on the right car, and an open fender car with bags in plain sight is tacky as the suspension is part of the cars asthetics. but all this talk about "traditional" is a bunch of blowhardness (new word) don't ignore technology because it doesnt fit a fad or a styles guidelines, do what makes the car perform better, safer and more astheticaly pleasing to you. im so traditional i don't listen to my FM radio because they didn't have it in the 50's, get off the computer and throw away your cell phone because its not traditional
LATELY??? LOL wow. i've been around here a long time and it's ALWAYS been this way. i have'nt been on in months till the past couple nights and it's the same old shit.
Good point.I knew I wasn't missing out too much(except for the great builds and tech articles) when I disappeared the first time..By the way,the only Correct Period I believe in is the monthly one a gal gets to let me know I didn't get her knocked up..Phew....Brrrram Bum..
yup, i stay away from this site for months at a time now and always when i return i can bet money there is at least one thread that there will be some fucker bitching that another fuckers build isnt traditional enuff................ Fuck that Hotrodding is dieing and bitchy fuckers are the reason for it its ur hot rod build it how you want it.....fuck the ones who dont like it
No-one is questioning the fact that you should build it how you want to... that's a given. You want to be untraditional? That's fine too.... but there's about a gazillion message boards out there that will cater to your needs better than this one will. I cant understand for the life of me why folks come to the Hamb, which is quite clearly a traditional board to it's very core, and then bitch and moan because we're stuck in tradition. Well stiff shit.... we're traditional because we wanna be. If you dont like it, go to: Ruffrodders.com Killbillet.com OlSkoolRodz.com Ozrodders.com Hotrodsonline.com Hotrodders.com I'm sure they will be perfectly happy to accomodate your non-traditional car. The #2 post in this thread said it all.
give newbie some slack... BUT dont come back with gay metaphorical responces about how "Bags represent PUSHING boundaries just like Winfield and the spirit of Hot rodding...!!!"" No matter how anyone wants to defend a Mini Truck as representing a similar spirit to a traditional Rod, this site has some sort of 'guidlines' plane and simple.
I firmly believe Hotrodders, streetrodders, bikers etc etc come to this place because it has become the temple for online hotrodding albeit strictly traditional. Ryan and his disciples have helped create more than just a message board, it's a way of life for a helluva lot of people on here. A daily ritual of scouring the threads for information, inspiration and enlightenment let alone all the cool contacts and friendships you make along the way. Come on in and enjoy it, not stir it up. Respect the advice you get for questions asked and if it isn't what you want to hear rephrase the question. Someone will respond with the answer you want. It just happens that way on here. This message board changes you somehow. Give it 6-12 months and I'm pretty sure you'll be chomping at the bit to own a dirty old A coupe or roadster or whatever your newly acquired taste buds desire. Just my opinion of course...
The Ala Cart (given as an example above) is generally considered the first hotrod to be a full blown custom show car and, if you take time to look, the air bags are airlift style bags mounted inside coil springs. Nowhere have I ever heard it referred to as a traditional hot rod. And although the U S custom car traces it's origins back to the mid 30s or so, hot rods for the longest time (and I still feel that way) are pre 1949 U S made automobiles made in the image of circle track cars (hot roadsters) and dry lakes cars (roadsters if you're talking SCTA). Despite the allowable exceptions (49 to 64 cars, custom and hot rodded), when I found this place, I found it refreshing that it was devoted to supporting the construction of cars built in the image of those "Hot Roadsters". By all means, lurk around here for a while and you'll find out what a "traditional Hot Rod" is all about, (despite what some think, it's not is flatted paint, zoomie style headers, rust, iron crosses, air bags, laying frame, poor craftsmanship, etc.), but after that if you don't want to play by the rules in this sandbox, go somewhere else.
Some of you guys are a little harsh, the guy is from the netherlands and trying to research something he wants to do, might have been more constructive just to suggest those other sites. I'm glad I never posted a "Might put an LS1 into my '51 Merc thread" and just kept it in my head.
It's a lot easier to read and think, humm 34 Plymouth , air bags, not for me and just go back to the traditional porn sites. I feel much better already
You have thrown open one of the ongoing arguments around this forum. The main point that the guys want to bring out is that "laying frame" isn't considered as being traditional on a hot rod. I as an old fart don't get the point of driving in and setting your car on the ground with the front tires at some gawd awful angle just so it looks like something that the mini truck guys do. I am thinking bags on the back of the 48 to "maintain" the proper ride height and stance at the rear empty or loaded with the gear I pack along on a road trip. They will probably be set to lift the rear but won't lower it below it's normal static height that it would have without them.
Weasel...funny! Your bio says "hot rods have no set formula" Then you post something like this. Stuck up traditionalist!! Me..I don't follow the rules I build cars the way I want. All of these cars have bags. No they don't lay frame. The bags are for ride and they are cheaper than a new spring...not to mention adjustable. According to you I don't belong here! Clark
I walk the line between traditional and technology sometimes. I think its good to use newer stuff sometimes if you can hide it. Your cars look good Clark ,but would you put bags on the front of any of them?
this truck had airride, and was channeled and chopped. but i guess its no TRADITIONAL hotrod! you guys are so anal retentive about your schtick that you really start splitting hairs. btw, one of the best looking roadster trucks i have seen in a long time. even before it had paint.
I finally got a laugh off this thread!!!!!! I think it makes a nice ending. Ryan. do us a favor and kill this one now!
You Guys Are No Different From Any Other "culture" You All Think You Are Better Than The Next Guy. Ive Been On All Sorts Of Sites For Classics, Rods, Patina, Rat Rod, Traditional......... Ur All The Same------ Negative About Something That Is A Little Different, Why? Why Not Support The Next Guy, Help Him And Dont Worry..... It Doesnt Have To Be In Your Club And You Dont Have To Drive It. I Have All Sorts Of Rides, Traditional, Minitruck, Full Custom Rod, Patina, Muscle Car. I Love All Styles And Flavor---------- Open Ur Minds A Little. Thanks
Because this site is about and dedicated to TRADITIONAL hotrods and customs. That is what it is about. So, it is best to just stay on topic and try to be as much as possible. If it was about whatever, it would just become whatever. I agree, no need for negative bashing for any reason. You don't see Ryan doing it. I would think no need for anyone else to do it either. But things should stay on topic so this site stays the best place for TRADITIONAL hotrods and customs. A little O/T here and there and an odd not quite right project is cool I am sure and can't harm much. But, to just open the door up to whatever will ruin it. A little trash talking and all that is part of hotrodding too, so roll with it, get over it or just ignore it. If you don't like a post, just move on and don't comment and let it die or get deleted. It is just a matter of respect to the board to know what the site is about and try to fit into that, no matter what the board is. This happens to be clearly dedicated to TRADITIONAL hotrods and customs - pretty simple really.
