Projects Ala Kart style grill shell ..

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Kellys Hot Rod Parts, Mar 19, 2022.

  1. received_503997354572806.jpeg I scratch built this kustom Ala Kart inspired grill shell years ago..After decades on a shelf I have decided its time to find some help to move the project forward....Im hoping to find a fibergl*** shop somewhere in Wisconsin willing to help put the shell into production. I am knowledgeable in fibergl*** mold building but at my age I have neither the time or ambition to hand lay up the mold let alone make parts...Plans are the use of reproduction 1958 Corvette ***emblies and a few variations of grills in both polished aluminum and stainless steel already installed so no scrounging up old parts!.If you or someone you know have a fibergl*** fab company and would be interested in helping with production please contact me at hoenterprisescl***ics@yahoo.com or call Kelly @ 715 881 1932 thanks

  2. I hate to say it, but I doubt you'd sell enough to make any money on them. The Silver Sapphire '32 coupe (of 'Little Deuce Coupe' fame) had a similar nose that was available for sale at one time but I don't recall ever seeing one on another car.

I'd have to agree there, I'd think there wouldn't be enough market to invest in a batch of them and hope to sell the batch. you could pretty well count the number of cars with similar in style noses on them with two hands and not have to take your shoes off to add to the count back in the day.

I would think there might be some guys out there that may want a grille like that but if I were to try and market them it would be on a small scale to get your feet wet, who knows it might take off and surprise you.

I am not ***ociated with these guys but they seem to do very nice work. you might try to contact them and pitch the idea, good luck. HRP

The market for highly stylized parts, or clones of esoteric ones, is a tough one.

Agreed with what many are saying. Guys who are building cars with that type of styling are rarely going to want an exact copy of another car. That's why the are building something unique...to be unique.

The 32 Ala Kart wanna be does nothing for me, but that blue 34 in the background really floats my boat!

Never did like the Ala Kart nose that much but however, I've always wanted a copy of the Emperor nose.

I love the nose and on the right car with the right style and imagination... would be killer.
As a matter of fact... there was a company making them and advertised them in R&C in the late 80's, early 90's.
Master genius Keith Weezee actually rendered one up for a shirt design on a roadster... Could have been an early TRJ unit.. can't remember.....
But yea.... it's a very small market. but a cool ride could be done.

    Think outside the box..... tastefully.

  13. I can see a limited market for them. Might be a fun side hustle.

I think you should be congratulated for a job well done on the gl*** work.

  16. Im an old retired guy and have a metalflake sedan screaming for one...My plan has always been to do an initial run of six and maybe do another 5 or 6 a year..I never thought about m*** production....I would consider selling 6 a year a success ..After all its something I had in my head and built with my own hands..

  17. My wife said the same thing !

  18. Scott Jezak in Rhode Island already makes the type of nose that you want to make. I don't think that he sells more than 6 per year.

  19. Does he sell them complete with the headlight ***emblies and grill or are you left to scrounge stuff up?..Mine would come with the headlight already installed..
