Since the latest do over, I went into my profile and marked the alerts that I wanted on all my devices. Still getting alerts on stuff I could care less about.

The HAMB is starting to bother me given the amount of information that it seems to be gathering regarding preferences, etc.

    Go here:

    Watched Forums

    And here:

    Watched Threads

From there, you can control what threads and forums are sending you notifications. You can also go here:

Not exactly sure what you are insinuating here, but just in case - We don't gather any information on you, sell any information about you, or send anything unsolicited at all. Even with alerts, we don't alert you unless it's something YOU as a user elected to be alerted about.

Further, you have complete control over your own preferences. The only reason we even have alerts is to keep you notified of what is going on within the forum. Hell, so long as you are logged on we don't even force advertising on you - maybe a small detail you, but something I sacrifice thousands of dollars a month to do simply out of principle.

In other words, I run this joint pretty damned clean... and protect our user's privacy with my own pocket book. And I do it sincerely.

Ryan...I have zero watched forms and zero watched threads. The only alerts checked are when someone quotes, likes or mentions me in a thread. From time to time, a change in the iOS causes things to revert to an original setting until there is a reboot. I have rebooted all my devices and still get alerts that are meaningless to me. It was my understanding that an Alliance membership was the key to being immune to ads on the HAMB. Sorry if I pushed your ****ons, but whose to say that somewhere down the line that this info creates an opportunity for Mark Zukerberg to throw a billion dollars at you in his quest to build a self driving highboy?

In that case, you can control what alerts you and what doesn't here:

No. I've thought about showing ads to non-alliance members... But I don't. If you are logged in, you don't see ads.

Me. Nothing at all has changed as far as data collecting on the HAMB in the past 20 years. I don't see it changing in the next 20 either.

You can be negative about our definition of "tradition." You can be negative about our political policies... But our approach to data privacy is absolutely defendable by fact and honor.

I have eliminated the HAMB apps from my iPhone and iPad. Yet I'm continuing to get alerts on every new thread and/or post. I even got a HAMB alert popup when I was reading the WSJ on Saturday. This morning when I opened the site there were 50 plus alerts! You have my permission to access my profile to get read of the damn things.

When you say "alerts", what do you mean exactly? If you removed the apps from your iPhone and iPad, it's literally impossible for you to get an alert from us... Or, are you getting emails?

BTW, you were watching the entire HAMB forum... I turned that off for you.

Every time I logged on to the HAMB, the lightening bolt on the far right was red and listed all of the latest threads and posts. My iPhone would list the same thing as soon as I turned it on. I have no idea how I ended up watching the entire HAMB forum. Thanks for fixing it.
