Technical Alfa Romeo Rear End???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by alteredpilot, Nov 28, 2014.

  1. just picked up a little Model T that has an Alfa Romeo rear end in it with drums and knock off wheels.

was there ever a time when that was a 'thing to do' like pinto conversions or the like?

i gotta start looking for info, but even though its kinda off topic i figgered id start here.

    thanks.

I remember a 'T' coupe being built downunder many years ago (1970s) that had a similar foreign exotic (Italian) IRS in it and couldn't imagine it standing up to too much HP, more of a novelty item I thought. I've also seen a Nissan 240K IRS (?) in a 'T' as well. A bit of fabrication involved. To each their own IMHO. From a serviceability point I'd stick to mainstream parts that are readily available at a reasonable cost.

If it was the rear end out of an Alpha cop car, it would handle the power of a V8. The special cops in Italy run Alpha V12 engines and race car suspension.
The police specials were only available to the police, and were destroyed when they were a couple years old. It's possible that the rear ends were also used in race cars.

In a light car, there's nothing wrong with an Alfa straight diff, they came in some of the finest handling live axle cars made, ever. And they do look good, ta boot. Gary
