Depending on what you are willing to put up with, mech. injection is great and easy. Playing with the spool is not a big deal if you know what the motor wants after some kind of running base line. Also changing the gas pedal ratio for tip in. You can run them on the street, but would not suggest it for a tuning beginner. The select a jet is also a necesity if to be driven alot around town. Also they like cam and compresion.
Thank you for the great resonse Algon! I thought this is how all mechanical injection systems worked, with a pill used to restrict flow through the return line. Do Algon systems use a different method to meter fuel volume to the injectors?
i don`t know what it is...! changed it for building a carsontop for an 32 roadster, so i think it was a gooood deal
My buddy's father-in-law has a real 1959-1961 Salt Flats 1955 Triumph Bonneville that was Algon injected, but they haven't been able to find the injector setup for it yet. Those are gas-welded aluminum fairings, too!! http://waywardgarage.com/1521/bonneville-triumph-motorcycle/
If the bike was built in Tracy and Al's shop was in Oakland it's possable that it was a one off injector.
This is more of a Hilborn question but I've got 104A Hilborn injector nozzles in my four port. Where do these fit in on your refference chart?
Would you happen to have any pics or info on the Y-block Algon, which evidently makes a twist to line up the injectors rather than stacked as with the Hilborn? Would love to see some more detail. Thanks.
Right you are on the Y-block Algon. I thought they were also stacked, but recently saw a pic that identified the above as Algons and thought maybe I wasn't paying attention. On second look, it also looks like some type of EFI conversion as well. By the way, if Hilborn only sold some small number of Y-block injectors any idea how may Algon may have sold?
I'm sure if I were to go digging in my pictures I could find 7 different "large port" 409 intakes. That said, they're still rather uncommon; it's probably safe to say there are less than 100 big and small port versions out there, total. (Maybe even a third of that?) The big ports are certainly less common than the small ports. I'm still looking for one that isn't outrageously priced, or a small-port version that hasn't been hacked to fit the large-port heads, though... (send me a PM if you have one!).
Kev I have that same injection and Isky drive on a Olds. I have only seen one other pic of that injection. Thanks for posting. My pump is off the back of the blower. Still think he made some cool looking pieces.
Here is my Olds setup on my CR Dragster, but........I need a return plate that bolts on top of the pump, can anyone supply me with a photo or drawing that I could use to make one.
sorry i am new to this forum and i may be in the wrong spot but i have a question i just got a 2.5 GM iron duke with algon on it and it has been set up for alcohol and i was just wondering what size main jet (pill) i need to make it ready for gas? thanks greatly appreciated with answers
We are investigating some ideas on mechanical injection . This thread although Algon based has been very interesting for me in particular. Thanks all. Here are a couple of pics of our early mock ups. Don
It has been a lot of fun. We decided to mock up the idea and go from there. We both worked on OEM systems both mech and elctronic. Mocking it up was fun but you also realize that with a bit more thought it might just acutally work. Anyway I have found this thread very educational and it has inspired a couple of metering ideas I had almost forgotten about. (Constant pressure, variable metering related to throttle postiton etc.) for those who dont recognize it, it is a new 5.7 hemi done old school.
I ran a set of algon's on a big block chey unblown gas drag boat, they ran great, wiss i still had them
Cool. Very simular to what I have been doing, This is a Banger one finished and building one for a Buick 8
