As I was taking it apart to freshen the drivetrain and build a new chassis. Fabrication is about finished on the replacement frame. This is the mock up engine....freshened 276 is wrapped up in the corner, trans, quick change, front suspension, brakes rebuilt and ready to go.
Just took off two big logo 97's and eBay them for big bucks. They did nothing. This is a turn key and go no hassle tuning leaking problems. Heads don't leak like the China finned ones and replaced china studs with old Ford stuff. Much happier this way. Plus I like the old stock cast look of all the parts. No smoothed stuff... Will you have firewall interference with the block that far back? Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using H.A.M.B. mobile app
No issues with clearance. The firewall had already been been recessed enough to clear the fuel pump/breather. Had I started this project from the beginning I would've done it differently...the way I did my sedan A-v8... But since the drive shaft had already been shortened and the firewall cut (nicely) I set the engine in the same front-back position.
But maybe some day a set of cast Champion heads and a SCOT blower isn't out of the picture. I'm just not a big fan of the fancy stuff. I do have a original Almquist adapter I may try to get going next spring. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Well here is my 8 year old project (so far). I have learned a lot about AV8s in the past few years. Mostly from reading old magazines & picking peoples brains here. It is a 29 Phaeton. It will stay a Phaeton. The sub frame & much of the rear half needs patch panels. It has a 51 Merc motor that was rebuilt by sears in the late 60s. it has about 30,000 miles on it since rebuilt. 39' tranny stock A rearend 4:11 gears but looking to change that this year Not sure of wheel combo to run yet.
My little 31 , 3 and a half years in , 1935 21 stud , isky cam Johnston hollow adj. Lifters Edmunds intake pair of ford 94's 59 galaxy 9 inch. More details in my build thread, little teaser- the coupe Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Nah mate, had it for years. Just had the time to photo and post today. I thought it may help/hinder the questions about "what is a AV8?" as it was printed in 1952. Hows your T/AV8 coming along anyway Harley?
great book, used to keep it in my school bag for years! AV8 to me is alway's a Model A frame! no 32's it's slowly getting there, how have you been keeping!
Nice coupe. I am trying to put an 8BA in my 31 roadster as well. I really don't want to modify the firewall but my front motor mounts are much further in front than yours. Curious how you accomplished this.
It's my pleasure boys...it's full of good info from '52 and the "latest" methods of building a SoCal hot rod. Thought it might be relevant to this thread, this is a banging threat by the way I've been going through the mill the two years or so mate but slowly getting back on track I'm also building a T/AV8 but for my girlfriend...hoping to get it ready for Pendine '14 even if we have to trailer it there I agree with you Harley in my mind an AV8 is a model A with a flathead/very early OHV V8 in a model A frame But I really got a soft spot for A's on deuce rails built 40/ early 50's style Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. How about a pic of the drivers side steering box clearance?? once I get some honey do's finished up ill be sitting the flatty in my A.
Well, guys, let's not put too fine of an edge on a definition. In a May 1958 issue of Hot Rod, they use the "A-V8" term for a really nice A coupe on a '34 frame! Clearly it evovled over time and we shouldn't be so dogmatic about it. --- Sent from the pits of dispair. Wirelessly, of course.
