Bill & I have decided to cancel The All Deuce Run - the weather shows no signs of clearing up - we are not rescheduling the run this year and wanted to give everyone ample time to cancel their motel reservations. Danny
I ****s, but the weather is something we have no control over, we have been fortunate over the past 22 years to avoid any bad weather, the storms are predicted throughout the weekend and with the route we take through the mountains is prone to rock slides. HRP
This past Tuesday I sent out 147 emails to give everyone a heads up about having to cancel the run, I listed it here on the hamb and Brenda posted it on several of the Deuce sites on facebook, the run was canceled due to the storms, there was also a landslide on the normal route and a bridge out. Invariably, someone didn't get the email or read about the cancellation, I got a call this morning wanting to know where is everybody and had we left early?, as I was trying to explain that I can't control the weather or acts of God but he just hung up. It reminds me of the old adage -"you can please some of the people all the time, you can please all the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all the time." In essence, damned if you do and damned if you don't. HRP (?)
There was always one guy in cl*** that wasn't paying attention during an important announcement. Hopefully he was a local, not a long distance driver. Danny, thanks for your help organizing this event each year.
I've been on this run many times, Danny & Bill do a great job and put a lot of thought & time into making this run enjoyable, for someone to complain about cir***stances beyond their control is down right petty, especially when they host this event for free.
I can understand the frustration of doing everything you can to communicate and someone getting mad at you anyway. Same thing happens to me at our events every year it seems. I just have to remind myself the same thing...you can’t make everyone happy. Some just choose to stay mad all the time and we can’t control it. I had a lady a couple years ago that was late because she couldn’t find the entrance to where we started...which has been the same spot multiple years. She saw all the cars leaving but called me mad anyway and went home. Still not sure why she didn’t just jump in. Oh well... Sorry to hear you had to cancel. Sounds like a fun event.
Gee, was his name Rip Van Winkle? Some people apparently live under a rock. Did he have a car? Maybe see you next year, if you have it.
Ha! I made a bet with myself that at least one person would show up despite the widely publicized cancellation. Looks like I won the bet. Danny & Bill do indeed do a great job of putting the All Deuce Run together. ‘Already looking forward to next year!
