    Im pretty new to the Hamb and the hot rod scene in general. Can a car like this be driven on the street or will the body fall apart since it is constructed of plaster? or is the plaster just a mold for a fiberglass shell??

    Im all ears and want to learn, so don't criticize me please. I have alot to learn and this place is a wealth of knowlege.

    ChevyC10, the plaster is only for mlding the appropriate body from fiberglass. You do the body in plaster, till it is exactly the shape you want it, and then you lay the fiberglass/solution over the plaster, and let it dry. After it has done so, you can pop the body off of the mold, and you have a fiberglass body. That's just a quick rundown by the way, there are the other guys like Fritz who can go into more detail. And don't worry about asking questions hell that's you learn things mang.

  8. Man, that is a SWEET SWEET bubble top! Are you using up all your fine imported news print in your spitwad? I'll bet the super secret Fink Cave is buzzing with the sounds of heavy machinery and alive with the ghost of Bob Goulet! I can't wait to get dirty in a month or so. See you in a bit, brother

    its plaster and newspaper mix'd to make a mold, then we roll fiberglass matt over it so in the end it will be a thick fiberglass body. I am actually making a DVD on how to build a body in this way so keep checking in!

    I can't tell from the picture if you're using wheel adapters to mount those rears to VW hubs. If so, I recommend drilling the hubs to fit your fancy wheels, as the adapters can come loose from the vw drums. I've used them and watched my wheel pass me just like in the herbie movie.

    Regardless, great project. I really like your chassis. You should be able to find plenty of inspiration from the VW drag circuit, and with your fancy bubble top, it will be a bad mofo.

    Two things. First there are a lot of relatively low cost VW performance combinations available for a suprisingly low cost (can you say scary performance). Second, you could incorporate wheelie bars into the design that would be both functional and add to the overall concept. Unless you've observed a sub 10 second VW powered drag car you MIGHT think wheelie bars would be overkill. After seeing one, wheelie bars seem a natural.:)

    IS IT DONE YET!!!!:eek::cool::D
