We're down here in Sarasota for the season, while the roadster is home taking a long winters nap. (I'm trying to get a carport built, but building doesn't happen down here like it does in Kalamazoo, so no shelter for it here. Yet.) To slightly lessen my hot rod withdrawal symptoms, I built this little model of the car. I joked with my wife that I spent more on this thing than some full size cars that I've been able to drive home. I certainly cost as much to paint as some of them. I've only seen a couple of hot-rods in the wild here, one of them a really tasty '34 5 window we saw at Cars and Coffee at UTC, then saw it rumbling down Cocoanut Ave. towards downtown. Cool, and really made me miss the roadster. Anyway, here the little car, next year we're bring down the real thing...
Nice. I'm working on a '49 Anglia I plan to take south from MI to FL for the winters too. I may leave it there to have a cool rod to enjoy the warm winters there, and hit the local drags on occasion.
Nice li'l highboy, Brian... LOVE your 1:1, miss your '34. I have a 1/25 resin body '27 roadster and a set of Revell '32 rails to duplicate my 'gl*** roadster, (also a 1/25 T Touring and Revell '32 rails for my steel '27 tub) The real ones are both highboys, but funny how much time it takes for the 'little ones', and how often I set them aside to do other ****! Push the tub out, make room for the rail spacers for the roadster. Move roadster out, move the bike, yadda yadda... Hey! I only have 25 feet by 25 feet heahh... (in a heavy New York accent)
I miss the '34 too, the only reason I sold it was that we were both spooked after the Pontiac wagon got hit. I figured if it'd been the roadster the ***-hat would have driven right over us. The consolation is that it's new owner really likes it and is happy, and, I got to build another bucket list car. So, life goes on. I MAY just get, or build, another car to keep down here. My enthusiasm for trailering anything, even our Spartan, long distances is wearing thin as I get older. I can rent storage cheaper than I can trailer anything myself even. We'll figure it out...
I'm also considering having a car to leave down here. We have a daily driver that stays here. It's expensive, and somewhat nerve wracking, trailering anything. It's pretty reasonable to store a car here, there are several close by, one at the airport that will prep and ready a car with a phone call, so that's a very real possibility. And, we'd always have a ride (we're only a mile from the airport).
To your "...local drags" thought, I met a guy (he picked up our golf cart when we had lithium batteries installed) who organizes and hosts a charity drag race/show at big race-plex in Bradenton to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis, which his daughter suffers from. Pretty cool guy, and good cause.
Bradenton Motorsports Park is hosting a lot of cool events these days. That one sounds like a great one to support.
