Well, Monday I*****oned up the driver's side engine mount, then made an adapter bracket sorta thingy to bolt the Vega TH350 (no, it wasn't a Metric!) to the stock 49 Chevy chassis. Got the bare block and trans case securely bolted into place and mocked up almost everything else...except for tight exhaust clearance, that combo fits like a glove!!

Is it just ME, or do 49 Chevys have an offset trans crossmember? I set my motor off slightly to the passenger's side (only by maybe an inch), but it still looked as if the tailshaft on the trans was off to the driver's side somewhat. I measured every angle and the motor and trans were true and straigh...in perfect line with the old torque tube...just looked funky to my eyes...maybe an optical illusion of some sort?!

Anyway, yesterday I snapped a few pics for the sake of doccumentation, then unbolted the little motor and pulled it out! Don't ask WHY I insisted on mounting that mess in there...just one of those "I HAD to do it" type of deals I guess!

Now...hopefully the NEXT engine mounts as nicely and with little fuss! Ding ding...round TWO comin' up SOON!!! "Upgrading" from a Dead Vega motor to a LIVE Citation mill! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

  2. Ed ...we took 3" out of the back and close to 4" out of the front. The windshield is laid back 2 inches. If you lay your windshield back be careful. Even though it's chopped close to 4" up front we only took 2 5/8" out of the post.

    Sawzall...cool trip!!

I know it is not much but I got the firewall cut and welded in the coupe. Man what a chore. Some easy things can turn out so hard.
