Ok, I'm not wanting to make production video or edit anything. I don't want to give you any compe***ion in the video/DVD market. However, I just bought a digital camcorder for a purpose. How do I record, sayd, my grandpa or other hot rodders and place it on that putfile site? Do I have to cut the quality down to do so? How much? I'm not worried about top quality so would one of the digital cameras with the ability to do 5 minute MPG files be the easiest? I want to share them here.....we all love video and see the ole' guys.....that's what I want to do. Nothing fancy, nothing eloborate! I appreciate your help!
Ah, come on! I promise not to start my own multi-million dollar video editing and production facility!
If it's a MiniDV camcorder and has a Firewire port (think they're also called 1394 ports) you can plug it into a computer that has a Firewire input. Windows Movie Maker--my computer came with it as part of Windows XP--or Mac's iMovie will import the video pretty much automatically--it'll talk to the camcorder and tell it to rewind and play and all that. You can get a high quality imported file from that, and then edit it and resave it into a compressed or lower quality format that you can upload. I figured it out with no directions in about an hour, and made something up with ***les and fades and all that in a night's work. Don't know much about the cameras that do MPG files directly--mine's an older POS that I bought for cheap off ebay, but it works fine.
I'd like to see how to do this, too. I'd like to post stuff like the 300 foot sideways skid going into work yesterday morning when I hit frost on the street. And driving to work in the snowstorms would be great. Nobody posts neat stuff like that and I think it's out there, just need directions.
