small, overadvertised, dissappointing ...but I keep going every year..hahaha. Got a pair of 34 chevy bumpers newly chrome plated for $250 for my pop..other than that didn't find anything except some cool stickers...ha
Went today also. Was not as crowded in the past. But we still found something so the trip was worth it.
I went on Friday...about 100 miles one way.....This is my 3rd year going....have never bought anything...I think it will be my last time, but we'll see next year...LOL. Murph
I stopped going there as well. Too far for too little. Interested in trying Cowtown again thats coming up March 28 now held at the Salem County Fairgrounds. Anyone else going?? I always found something there in the past.
I get the info by snail mail. There is a website for the club that puts it on but other than a mention in the newsletter, no real info there. SJRAACA
Its March 28 - Salem County Fairgrounds, Rt. 40, Sharptown, NJ (5 Miles West Of Woodstown) Thats about all the info I have. Its the 39th annual swap meet and people set up very early (6am). Everyone starts to leave by noon I have found tho it goes till 3pm. Its rarely advertised anywhere and I've usually heard about it only by word of mouth till I got on the mailing list. Seems to be South Jerseys secret.
'Like Jerry said. I went Sat, beautiful day, nice to get out and hang out with teddyp, cowboy vinnie, and some my other buds. I didn't expect much, 'just bought a few supplies. It was a nice break from the winter doldrums.
tokyo, jeep doug and I wend friday nite.. where we met up with mazdaslam.. I scored BIGtime on one part.. (but its sorta off topic for this forum.) I also located a guy who was selling a bunch of 40 ford stuff.. unfortunately some guy from delaware was there earlier and bought all the good stuff! after the swap we hit a local watering hole where we were chased out by the overpopulation of "cougars" it was a good night!
I went, mostly to get out as I was not looking for anything in particular. I did pick up some small stuff. Overall, I liked it. Later went to a newly opened car museum in Allentown. While mostly older cars, they have a good assortment of bicycles, bikes, a great looking Mustang prototype, and some super looking customs. A good showing I thought. A Hudson custom
I went on Saturday- first time going and didn't know what to expect. I ended up spending more on food and admission than I did in parts. There was some neat stuff and a few nice deals, but a quite a few of the things I looked at were seriously overpriced and the venders didn't seem too willing to work with you. The one thing that made it worthwhile for me was the fella up towards the front of the building that had all the old photos from Maple Grove. I can't recall his name but I picked up a business card from him. Aside from that, I'd say it wasn't really worth the 3+ hour drive for me. IsettaJohn- I'll be heading out to Cowtown this year. I didn't make it out last year but have been for a few years prior to that and I've managed to find some pretty good deals. I'll probably make the trip up Saturday night and either get a room or stay with some friends in the area.
Jerry finally got the polished panels back that you punched , look pretty nice have to get a photo or two of them for ya.
Cowtown is a trip! First time I went there I thought I made a wrong turn and ended up in Mesquite Texas. People walkin around with cowboy hats and spurs...regular rodeo scene just a couple hours outside of Newark....lol. I was never so friggin cold in my life, I ducked into one of the barns where some of the luckier vendors set up and stood by the stove to thaw out. It was 5:30 am and people were eating sausage sandwiches with peppers and onions and funnel cake for desert..washin it down with a Coke..Ha, my kind of place. See you there.
I went to look for misc. parts to use for my artwork... I like the cheap stuff that no-one know what it's for... then I don't feel so bad that I'm using it to make art rather than to fix a car. I went Friday afternoon and did OK... then went Sunday -not crowded at all Sunday so I was able to spend a little more time looking and scored all kind of cool stuff. The guy sellin' all the old photos is very cool... Nice guy to talk to. He will get more of my money in the future. Lot's of cool photos!
I wanted to go but something else came up . Well by the response I am glad I didn't make that 3 hour trip ! I got their little card flier in the mail and thought it would be a good day out of the house looking for parts . I guess I will just wait for Carsile Events to start up and the Jalopy Showdown ! Those are the places I always get the best deals ! Then Hershey in October ! Anymore good swap meets in the Pa area ????? RetroJim
Howard County Fairgrounds MD. Saturday March 13 7am to 3 pm I might set up there. Small show 1 day only and people start packing up a 2. Still beats working! Frederick County fairgrounds, MD the next weekend Fri & Sat much larger. All the really good stuff is gone friday by 2o
I went first time got a few items I needed. I talked to the guy with the track photos too, he was a driver & racers from way back . My buddy scored a new pair of 302 heads cheap. As for the food I should have done what my brother said the farm markets were great.
Going to Allentown swap meet & being disappointed is like being with a prostitute & saying you didn't feel loved... but thanks to cabin fever we all seem to go every year anyway. I'll be there next year too.
Drove three hours from Upstate NY to be there for the Friday Noon opening. Was near the front of the line. Blasted through scooping up a whole lot of super stuff. Left there and went to York PA for Cabin Fever Expo (machinist show) added to my swag on Saturday and went home a very, very happy man. Regards, Ron
