Technical Allied Piston Identification

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Forward Look Frank, Feb 7, 2024.

  1. Anyone out there have an old Napa allied piston catalog? I ran into a fellow who has 920P pistons that are .030 over. I'm not sure what they fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried calling allied but no luck. Thanks for your time.

I have a couple of older NAPA quick reference catalogs but am missing the years 1956 to about 1965 or so. In the later catalogs the part numbers have changed to seven digits, like "224-****". The 1955 and older catalog shows numbers similar to yours, a 3-digit number with a letter suffix, but everything listed there is a 600 to 800 series.
So for what it's worth, I'm thinking your "920P" is a later part number that has an application somewhere in the late 1950s to early 1960s before the change to the 7-digit part number. I know that's not much to go on. Sorry I couldn't be more help, at least this is a bump for ya. Hope you can get it figured out.

  3. Thanks, I appreciate the help just the same. Hopefully I'll find some info soon.

  4. Turns out they're 276 DeSoto pistons. A friend of a friend had an; LD Napa catalog and found the cross reference. Thanks for the help.

I found a set of Napa Allied pistons. Can anyone tell me what PN 744P fits and what "SEMI" mean under Size? Thanks.

"Semi" means the machine shop buying the pistons will finish them to needed size. Usually, they're at least .080 - .100 over.

My NAPA catalog says 744P fits 1949 to 51 Ford 6 cylinder. The bore is listed as 3.3" diameter and the piston should have 4-ring grooves - top two are 3/32" width, bottom two are 5/32" width. According to my older Motor's manual, that's a 226 cubic inch engine. The "Semi" part is explained above. Hope that helps ya.
