I bet if you ask those who will "benefit" from the family heirloom that YOU are so attached to, they would probably tell you that they would rather you leave them the cash from the "silly" price you got for the car rather than the car. lol

I have an ot 79 Malibu that was my first car. I assure you there is no amount of money that would buy it. I have had 20+ offers. A number of which were well over its actual value. My aunt bought it new and I bought it from her after workin all summer on the farm. Its absolutely immaculate. I just hope my kids dont sell it off when I'm gone.

It happend to me, in a rotten way...
I was in love with a red shoebox, it was the coolest thing I had ever owned. Worked on it for a long time, got it halfway going, and then this older guy I know slipped up and told me about this old car (not mentioing what it is, except its the holy grail) that was/might be for sale. My heart stopped, but I played it cool and in the meantime I tried everything I could do to get up as much $$$ as I could to get ready to make him my best offer.

In anticipation for spending every dollar I owned (wasn't much) I put up an ad on here and Craigslist to sell my Ford to have money to live on while I built the holy grail car. The first person to show a genuine intrest in it made arrangements (lives far away) to come see it, so I agreed and put the car on hold for him. A day or so before we were suppose to meet up, I had a shot at making the older guy an offer on the exclusive car, but no dice

Soon afterwards the guy came by from far away and left with my shoebox. What was I suppose to do? I couldn't tell him it was no longer for sale and not to come by, he (and a buddy) took time off from work, rented a trailer, and planned on driving all day, etc.
I'll never gamble like that again.

What made it worse, to me, is afterwards having a few stacks of bills laying around. It was making me feel uneasy so I blew it all on a bunch of old junkers and things I didn't really want. :(
At least I know I did the right thing.

Seems to me everything has a price , just gotta be the right guy to offer that price.

i had a survivor 57 chevy 2 door hardtop that only had 80,000 on it , bought it out of a garage from a family after the aunt had died , they called me and said they didnt want to have it towed back to florida and to show up with 5 grand. car was as complete as it could be right down to the original title , dealership paper work and the brochure where the gal picked out her options .

Guys all over the country heard about it and a few came to see it ,. one fella from alabama drove up just to look at it and i had told him it wasnt for sale.

Well he hounded me and hounded me and i said , yup ill sell it , $18k this was 2 years after i paid 5 for it and never touched the car . He tried to haggle and i told him it would do nothing but sit in that garage and make money , He left with no car.

I get a phone call a year later and its him again , He says " still got the car" and i said yes. He told me he had the 18k and was coming to get it and i said " price went to 20k , i told you all it was gonna do is sit in that garage and go up in value " He was there 2 days later with the money

Seems ever since i HAD to sell my 55 i drove all through high school , any of them are forsale , granted whoever buys it will have probably paid to much but itll be my price. Its just the way i see it , i have a family now , 2 sons and a wife , if i can make some money and better thier life , and still have enough left over for another project then im gonna do it .

  9. My cars all have a price, but to get your hands on one of my favourites the price is probably a lot more than its actually worth. Once they get sold I find that I don't miss them as much as I thought I would, its usually overshadowed by the thrill of a new aquisition and starting a new project. My grandfather, a very wise and hardworking blue collar kinda guy, sold his 58 Ford to a guy when I was about 8 and I was crushed because I loved riding in that car. As he was putting the 900 bucks in his wallet he said to me "Never fall in love with a car, son. You'll just end up with a broken heart."
