Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by squirrel, Nov 27, 2017.

  1. LOL the only sensible car I have ever known you to own broke down on the way to drag week. By my way of thinking you had better stay with insane. o_O:eek::D:D:D

Check your messages. I am cleaning the shop in the next couple of weeks. Sounds like my smart buddy needs a care package. ;)

Back to the slicks in the trunk idea - I’ve seen SUV’s with a normal hatch plus the part below the hatch also hinged down, to allow load-flat access to the cargo area. I think you could hinge the area where the trunk latch is, at about the bumper, so you would have needed access.

  3. This is one of my favorite builds on here. Drag week is on the bucket list but for now I’ll live through you!

  4. Drag Week would be fun even if you were not competitive (Jim usually is). Although I would probably not rent a Mustang to run it, it would have to be something home built. ;)

  7. Exactly. I like my rides purpose built, one of these days when the kids are a little older I’ll build a drag week car. I don’t care about being competitive, I’m just looking for the adventure!

  8. Good for you.

Most of the guys competing in the higher classes are using engines that are worth more than my house and that is only the engine. ;)

    Jim,
Let me guess. The wife wanted to update the kitchen so you inherited the early American style cupboards for the shop.;)

We figure it's around 175 as it sits...weighed by standing on a scale, and lifting up one end, then the other end.

I don't plan on doing any swiss cheese. I do plan to remove any parts that are not needed, though. We'll see how far that extends to the bracing inside the roof, etc. I have not decided yet.

Haha, Pork, Hemi vs. wedge. This is not a MaryAnn vs. Ginger thing... It is more like Kate Upton vs. Ellen thing...:D

Jim, if you are going with a flat tappet cam, I have one that might work for you. New in the box, cheap. Mopar performance P4529345 312 duration .614/.598 lift. Easy on the springs.

Thanks, I'm planning on a solid roller...probably around .650 or so lift, 300 adv duration. There don't seem to be any off the shelf, will probably have to have one ground.

Reminds me of what we did to those poor chevelles that went to the dry pond circuit.

It sucks that I cut up such a nice car...but that's life. No one else wanted to buy it, it sat for sale for over a month after I saw it, before I bought it.

I believe the modifications you are getting ready to make to it is how Chrysler Corp. Should have built it in the first place.

No it's not Squirrel, all the cars I've built were "nice cars" no rust and straight. Much better than welding rot or putting patch panels in. You are doing good Jim, I can't wait to see the finished product.

  27. If needed I know a Cam Grinder that started back in the days of Columbia Racing engines, Top Fuel dragsters and one of the top motor builders, Jim Albranch.

Thanks, but I'm building a street car, so I need to talk with cam grinders who know how to make something live for thousands of miles....it's kind of a different world from what most racing guys are doing.

Jim, I told you how big the cam is in my Hemi in the Model A a,d it is still alive and well after a bunch of street miles.

  30. Oregon Cam grinders and Kenny Hurd have been a main stay in the cam industry since opening the doors. They can do anything from big Diesel trucks to import motors. I guess what I was getting at is that if you can't get what you want over the counter they will grind what you want for just about anything. If your not sure what you need you might get a little coaching. They are an outstanding Co. to deal with.
