Dave G, I didn't think there where any rodders in Ganesvoort when I passed through there a few years ago.

Jim, just reread this thread for the second time - for me, it epitomizes the way a hot rod should be built. Clean, simple (in design, not execution, I would never consider what you accomplish simple by any means), without all of the frills, and built in a way that is inspirational to those of us who want to build something ourselves but are intimidated by all of the threads on here that focus on highly sculptural design that, while often beautiful, seems to mock the average builder and at the same time isn't actually HAMB traditional. Throw in the proper era-inspired design and the wow factor of its' hardcore, proven dual purpose nature and your Barracuda is truly a hot rod worthy of the praise it has been getting. I for one would love to build something similar if I had the skill set.

  6. Well said.

The only thing stopping anyone from building something similar is themselves.

the only thing? well maybe money

  8. I don’t have a lot of money, just have to be more creative. If you want something bad enough you can do it. It’s easy to find reasons you can’t.

Anyway back to squirrels car, everything is better with a Hemi.

    back to squirrel's car....

I've been puttering around with Almost Funny again, since I finally got done fixing up our old house for sale, and it sold. I'm moving slowly now, while I regain my energy. Being in my 60s (as of a few weeks ago) seems to slow me down just a little.

Where were we? Oh yeah...still a few things to do to be able to start it up. Wire the mag, put exhaust on, fluids in, check things out, etc.

So this means that you're planning to run Almost Funny in Drag Week?

I don't know if I'll run it at Drag Week, but it's possible....if I get it running, and get it all legal to run again (need to update safety stuff already), etc.

But it would be nice to be able to drive it around town.

  16. Good to see this one getting some attention again. One of my favorite cars on the H.A.M.B.

  17. Good to see and I can totally relate to the after 60 slow down. Seems I can do pretty much the same amount of work, just takes me twice as long now to recover from a long, drawn out project. Suppose it'll take a bit to get used to a new garage lay-out also.

I'm willing to bet the average age of a hamber is 62, so if that's the slowing down age I've been doing it for 10 yrs now. See what you started Squirrel!

  20. I'm 66 and have a back injury flare up... no fun. But I still work on the car, you'll get there. Call in some friends to help... free lunch is quite an attraction.

I just bought an OT 2020 Mustang leftover with 400 miles on it, that is an all-weather fun car with the 6-speed.

Turned 70 in April. Saying I'm 70 sounds a whole lot older than saying I'm in my sixties.

Made it to 75 this year. I may be old, but I seem to have slowed down with the process. Guess that's why we build fast cars. It's a way to compensate for the slow down and I still have good reaction times.

It's amazing the difference...the old shop, the walls started out white, and ended up gray. 28 years of building stuff there.

I met Jim @ Atlanta Draqway as well as Brian who has the green Chrysler coupe a couple years go when they were there for Drag Week.
Got to say that both have an amazing amount of drive and energy to buld, maintain, and race these cars along with all their other activities at ANY AGE! Both are first class people and a credit to hot rodders everywhere!
I'll be 84 in Nov. and will admit that I've slowed down a lot in the last 6-8 years. Worst is anything requiring getting on a creeper and going underneath, and if when you get under and find you need another tool and have to get back up and go get it! Makes you want to sell the hot rods and buy one of the bad ass factory hot rods:confused::eek:

Glad to see that you're getting back to it! I know what you mean about turning '60 ;) Give it another 10 years or so...

I know that I slowed down over the years, I didn't retire until I was 69, but not too bad until at 72 I had my second bout with cancer and problems with the surgery when they removed my stomach, after laying in a coma for a month and stays in 3 hospitals, I had to learn to walk all over again then I really slowed down! I'm happy to now be able to do some work even if it is at a slower pace!
