So I replaced the hydraulic brake light switch and the circuit breaker. I checked the filaments in the bulbs they appear to be fine. What am I missing? Is there some other switch or fuse or something I am overlooking?
By the way this is a '51 Plymouth Cambridge.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

Is it connected to ground? Do you have brake fluid? Are the wires frayed? I would bust out the multimeter and go to town.

Power to the switch? Wiring good from switch to lights? Good grounds?

    I'm sure I'm missing something.

9 Times out of 10 your looking at a bad ground.

Does it have a turnsignal switch? power from stoplight switch goes through the turn signal switch before going onto the taillights. Are your turn signals working. It may not be the problem but it's an often overlooked trouble spot.

Use your testlight to narrow down where you have no pwer.

I'm a new guy....I have a 53. Is yours 6 volt? Mine stopped working til I pulled the sockets and sanded everything with 120 grit. Especially the sockets where they ground to the housings. That fixed the grounds and they work good now.

I will check for ground. Yes it does have fluid. Wires don't appear to be frayed. I have yet to learn or understand my multimeter enough to use it:rolleyes: .

One thing I forgot is when I was changing the switch I wasn't careful and the wires touched the frame and sparked, Thats what prompted the circuit breaker changeout.

Thanks for the responses so far so quick.

Use a test light at the switch. One (either one) terminal should be hot, if not your problem is from there back to the fuse block. If you have a hot terminal, jump the two terminals and the brake lights should work. If they don't your problem is from there to the lights, including lights, sockets, grounds ect. If they light up, you have a bad switch. Good luck.

    Normspped,
Thanks for the heads up and I did do this a few months ago to make sure all the lights worked then.
