So I was making good headway on my Edsel. I got the 390 fired, tuned the carb (1 of 3 Holley 94's) tuned enough to run it and break the cam in. I figured out the Teletouch, got it working again. The problem was a wire I left off and taped when I changed the ignition switch over... 8 years ago! I was getting ready to move the car out of the driveway to load it up for the exhaust shop. I shift it to reverse... nothing. Rev it, nothing. Park works. Shift it in Dr, nothing. So the car was winched onto the hauler. From two different people I talked to, I found my issue. My transmission guy, who should know by now I'm a GM guy, failed to mention that a Ford torque converter needs to be engaged not once, but 3 times when putting it on. I did not know that. Now it looks like I f-d up the keyway on the pump, and now I need to remove that bohemoth cast iron Fordomatic to bring it back to the trans shop. Beautiful. That and I can't get the 94 to idle great. Need to play with that. It won't idle with the throttle blades closed, I've got to bump them open a little bit. It's not flowing through the boosters. Just something else to play with. At least I'm not under the gun anymore since Goodguys is past. So luckily I was trying to get the 67 Biscayne I was working on with my dad for 8 years out as well. At least that made it. It's not exactly HAMB friendly, but I had a good time this last weekend at least. Hopefully next year I'll be able to cruise in with my Edsel.... Any ideas on how much my tranny repair is gonna hurt me, or any pointers on my carbs? Thanks in advance, Josh.
Your Carb needs to pass some air through at idle so having the butterflys open some is right, not closed off tight. That's just for the additional carbs. The Wizzard
I've never heard about 3 clicks for a GM trans... I've done a dozen of them, and had no issues so I guess I'm allright there. And thanks Wizzard, I guess that makes sense. Just seemed weird to me since I had to adjust the idle adjustment/choke linkage all the way in just so it would idle. I'll play with it over the next month, maybe try and get all three in sync.
