You just never know what you will find where roads don't go! I actually have a lead on the owner....... I will follow up with a current status post when I make contact. Last time I stumbled on to a find, it was a 3 window Zepher Coupe. I also found a 40 Ford Coupe this morning, in about the same shape as this Impala. Same deal, sitting on some farm land nearby.

What is THERE is rough but, it's still all THERE! That 348 looks complete as does the interior.

Knew what engine was in it as soon as I saw the steering wheel.

To think I was embarr***ed to drive mine back in 1971. Cause it was 11 years old. What a dummy I was.

Best of luck to you on the rescue attempt, I'd love to see that old beauty fixed back up.

Except for the deck lid, the car looks pretty straight. It is unusual to find one of those with "3 on the tree."

so im ***uming the 348 was punched out to a 409. did they offer both engines in the same year? or did they discontinue the 348 and make the 409? my dad has a 1960 chev Biscayne that looks just like that car.. it came with a six banger with a 3 on the tree. ( its in 100 percent better condition tho drivable etc )

Doesn't make me cry at all. I just think of the possibilities.

By the way, if it was sitting in a field in Illinois, all that would be there would be a big pile of rust.

    348 = '58 thru '61.

409 = '62 thru VERY early '65 Impala production. Most folks say thru '64. DD

    Threads like this are funny.

One guy takes pics and posts them of a car he finds/takes pics of by tresp***ing

Another knows it has a 348 because of the steering wheel

Then too top it off anothers dad has a Biscayne which looks just like an Impala 2 dr Ht

No they didn't come from the factory in 60 with a 409.

Don't need a picture. A Biscayne has two lights per side not 3 in the rear. Didn't come from the factory with an Impala steering wheel. Biscayne would be either a 2 or 4 dr sedan not a 2 dr Ht. They would have different side trim and no aluminum trim panel across the back around the tail-lights.

Actually, the car is about 15 minutes from my house. I met the folks that own the abandoned farm and was told to go take a look at cars that lay on the back acreage and see if I had an interest in any of them. This Impala was one of them. I have been given the car owners name, who I have been told has no interest in it. I really don't make it a habit to tresp***. I simply wanted the less synical people to have a chance to enjoy the pics......

found the damn thing.. now i look at the photo instead of going by memory.. i can see what you are talking about.. it lacks some of the trim up front too. so im a idiot.. o well. its a cool car i like them both..

    chris.

    P.S

was the impala's 348 a engine option for the Biscayne line in 1960? or strictly impala option. as my dads came with a strait six 3 speed on the tree. we put a v8 in it last winter.

My mistake, I thought that particular style horn was for big-block cars only.

348 cu. in. was an option in all models in 1960. In late 1961 the 409 was available in the impala s.s.

The entire reason I was out on the property looking at the other cars, was because I stopped to look at this 56. This is a cool car because it is a one owner and never modified! 265 and three on the tree. This family bought this car brand new at the local dealership. Very unusual to find cars like these that are bone stock original. The last plates on this 56 are 1972. The last plates on the 60 are 1969. I just think it's awesome to find a family that has held on to these cars since new. They finally realized that they should do them some justice and consider selling them. He quoted me 5K or best reasonable offer on this 56. He said he has turned down a 3K offer twice. I'm thinking maybe 4K gets it on my trailer? Plus, there is a 4dr 56 that goes with it. However, I'm all in on the Impala if I can swing it!

Sorry I was wrong. I did jump to the conclusion that you really didn't belong there. I would say though that the conclusion I made would be right many times as verified by the number of guys who post they snuck into/onto property to check out some car.
