Technical Almquist carb adapter

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by dsiddons, Oct 17, 2013.

  1. Just looked at my Almquist adapter. Same as the one talked about here.

    Sure enough, it is spelled
    ALMQIUST

I guess the worth of that just went up. I'll see if I can post a pic later.

Reviving a zombie thread, but I just picked up a Speed Gems last night. Have no intention to use it, but I've always wanted one. Not sure why. Looks boss in with my other flathead intake collection.

I have an Almquist two carb adaptor and I think it is original and it is spelled Almqiust. I remember going to Milford, Pa as a kid many times. About seven years ago (I think) a few of us guys went to Ed Almquist house. We had coffee and his wifes Christmas cookies. We had a great visit. He was telling us how he started Almquist. Sometime after that I tried to see if he would sell the Almquist name but I guess I had dropped the ball and nothing got done. I have a poster and old catalog and a signed copy of his book.

Just got this one in a load of flathead parts. Looks NOS and is spelled wrong too.

That's pretty funny about the spelling. Maybe yours is a knock off?

My non-trusting nature leads me to believe that both the Almqiust and Edlebrock adapters are devious fakes intended to dupe the purchasing public way back when.

Some say the mis-spelling is a foundry mistake on the early ones.

The only ones I have seen mis-spelled looked like newer ones and one had a 3 bolt mounting. I always wondered what happened image.jpg
