How did this guy do this?

I look at this as a big F-you to all those people that mortgage their house for those ridiculous "spinner" fad wheels...too funny.

    Is this a HAMBer's car??

I'ts like the car is riding on grease! LOL...
We see this all the time in the winter months in Michigan...but it sure looks weird on dry pavement!

That is cool. My guess is the hubcap is on a bearing (like spinners), and it has a heavy weight on the inside, at the bottom. So it never moves, especially when you take off nice and slow like in the video...

possibly mounted the wheel cover to the spindle....I've heard of it being done but have never seen one done AND dont know how you would keep the grease cap in place to gain access to the non-rotating spindle....

  5. You remove the dust cover on the front and weld on a bolt. Then you bolt on your cap. Red Baron did the same thing on his Ford. They call them "floaters".

i have this on my car, just think gladiator stlye extension off of the center of your spindle with a bolt on the end of it, place hubcap on the end and cinch her down. gets a lot of looks from people, but i did have one guy tell me that my "spinner was broken"

  10. First time i saw that, i thought the guys front wheel was frozen, and he was draggin the tire as he backed out of a parking spot at Long Beach Swap Meet a few yrs ago. When i said something to the guy, him and his passengers busted out laughing. Then i looked again, and got it. Cool deception

In about 1990 I was at Hot Augest Frightes, anyway, there was this old school chopped 53 Merc Hardtop. Had them hubcaps. He had bags in the front and drove it high. But when coming to the stoplite, he dropped the front and played outside speakers of tires squeeling. Only doin about 5 MPH, you should have seen the peds jumpin......Classic!.........OLDBEET

They aren't weighted on the bottom and they've been around since the 50's, but since you think they're gay and "know what's going on " I guess they should be excluded from 'traditional'

When I was a 10 year old gear-head-wannabe the coolest kid on the block had an old coupe, late 30's-early 40's, with skirts on the back and big spun bonneville-style caps on the front that said "Johnny-B-Good" and they never rotated. I was intrigued and one day got the nerve to ask why and he took the time to explain it to me. That one act of sharing from one generation to another really made an impression on a young kid and I've always tried to do the same.
OK, OK, enough reminiscing...now back to work....

Waaaay back when; a friend who had a '56 Ford Crown Vic, had a set on his.
He was a machinist. He drilled and tapped a hole on the end of the spindle for a bolt to protrude, then drilled a slightly larger hole in the hub bearing dust cap.
(allowed the hub to turn without touching the bolt)

A bolt was threaded into the end of the spindle, passed through the dust cap, and had a bracket welded on the end that held the hubcap motionless as the hub, wheel and tire rotated.

  28. Unless I missed it, that car was built by Dick dean from a four door merc as a show of what could be done without starting with a big buck ragtop or coupe. I don't think he knows much about traditional mercs and such......:)

  30. I have the ad when Jack had that car for sale.
"Custom built by Dick Dean. Chopped windshield, featured in Paso Robles Video. V8,stick with OD. cost $25K to build, must sell. This car runs like new. $12,000. Ask for Jack."

Pretty sure that was Jack Clark.
