Thanks for the info. Perfect timing. I am going to install the spring mounts tomorrow. I used two x four tubing, and just piecut the bottom just to taper the rails a little. Always like the tube mounted in the front of the rails( one of the first things I did on my first 55 that I bought 40 years ago !
heres one taken alittle over a year ago now...since I moved back to CT, shes sitting in my rented garage...
Thanks. I have a blown 392 Hemi that I have had planed for a couple different cars, but will work fine in this. I had it in a 33 Willys (that I sold before it was finished/less motor) and I was going to put it in my 50 Thames Panel truck (next project after the 55), but it was really too big for the truck. So now it will end up in the Chevy. I am waiting to get my 727 back from the ****** guy to fab the motor /trans mounts. Plan on moving the engine back as far as possible with out moving the gas pedal/brake pedal location. I'll cut the firewall and fit it to the motor. Nice thing is the right cylinder head is further back then the mag is, so it should look good tucked back as far as possible. I will also notch the top of the firewall for scoop clearance.
THANKS i built the car were it could be driven long distance
I am glad you are planning on running the quarter instead of the eighth! bad *** chevy!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am glad you are planning on running the quarter instead of the eighth! bad *** chevy!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live close to irwindale speedway so the car may take a few p***'s in the 1/8.... I better pull out my 5.29 gears.........lol
G***er55, Where did you get your springs for the straightaxle? Can you give the measurements of the mainleaf (width and length)? Great looking cars!!! When it comes to building period correct cars to many people carry the ball 95 yards and fumble but it looks like you have scored a few touchdowns. Good Job.
The width on the springs is 2" and the length is 2'3". I'm not sure what they came off of but i wish i did. I picked them up at a yard sale for $5.00.
I have had a couple people PM me, so here are some pictures of my cross-steering set up. 70's(?) Chevelle 525 box mounted to the ch***is(mounting tubes are welded through the 2 x 4 tubing) Pitman arm is from Speedway Motors. I will bend it downward once the car is complete and the springs settle to make the draglink parallel with the axle at normal ride height. Here is the right steering arm. Also from Speedway. This would normally bolt on the left spindle on the two lower mounting holes(facing aft). Just reversed it, bolted it to the upper hole facing forward, clearance it so I could get to the grease fitting, and bent it down just a touch as to lower the draglink away from the lower belt drive pulley. Here it is what it looks like with the motor installed and the tie rods installed properly(no more tie-wraps ).
are you doing this for a living? if not you should cause theres certainly a market for you skills and perspective. you know the look. i love em all..g***ers, awb, ss, rods. still kicking myself for letting my pontiac powered 55 go. but after seeing the cover of Garage magazine number 7 i knew in my heart i had to do a 65 goat. anyone ever see the zombie. check that issue..even had some chics with their 55 chevy and 65 comet. in fact a buddy is doing an awb comet now and my pontiac project will come thereafter.
Wow!!!! You are the king of g***ers I love all your cars that 55 is sick!!!!!! Some people just have an eye for what looks good. Great work.
g***er55, you have great cars. i love them all, but just for the record, the 55 g***er ceased being a g***er, and became an altered when you changed the wheelbase. dan
