The only problem I've run ito with the short cage is my head bumps it on the bumpy return road. I didn't have a plan on making it taller but do want to get my head tucked further inside it. The prior owner had really padded it up and by changing that around I should be able to get tucked further in. The cage is mild steel.

Kinsler fuel injection is local for me and I'd like to have them set up hat injection with a Victor Ram manifold for it by next spring.

I noticed something else about running that car. Doing a burnout or using the transbrake does not change my 60ft times or ET's any significant amount but that may change as the car gets dialed in and the engine makes more power.

  2. Looking at your pictures I see additional black streaks in the track before you got there. Did someone else have the same problem before you?

Above comment is just friendly banter on the forum
Are you going to bring it out to the H.A.M.B DRAGS?
Sure would like to see it run

I'd like to plan on the H.A.M.B. drags but my wife is almost ready to deliver a baby. I'll have to plan on racing local for a little while but if I can keep the car together and the engine alive next year I should make it no problem.

Fun ride you've got there. Those Bantams can be a hand full at times. When dialed in, your in for some great laps. Best of luck with it.

I had one many years ago and was running high 8's. Can get pretty hairy out there. ;)

    Hey Lippy! Short cars rule.....:p

RE: the roll bar being too "short."

i've got some other questions about the car, but it's getting late and i'm getting sleepy.

But concerning the roll bar, do the rules(nhra) basically "say"/interpreted as, that if an altered is slower than, say, 10 secs, you can basically have any roll bar/frame design.

It's only after 9.99 do they start to get picky?

Took the car out to Lapeer Dragway(Lapeer Michigan) yesterday and the best I could do was a 10:30. It was really cold yesterday with the temp at the track in the AM of about 28 degrees. The tires just didn't want to stick to the cold track and almost had a repeat of the spin out a few weeks ago. It was so cold we built fires in the trash barrels to keep warm. Yeah, once the car hit's the 9's tech gets stricter. Some tracks aren't santioned here and more liberal. Once I get the car stabilized I want to focus on some other race cars we're buiding.

Yep, bantams are cool but just don't see them anymore at the local tracks.

Recent pic of the injection. Working on getting it sorted out now. After taking it to the track last weekend I found out the 2 gallon fuel tank is not enough and will have to move up to a larger tank.

    Hyde -

    Nice car.
On your spin a while back...and your note about the 1/8th mile and "not" making it...

    Maybe not..so bad.
Many moons back, I had a 90" w.b. Anglia, small block Chevy powered. My "first" time out with the car at the original Irwindale Raceway (SoCal)...I spun the car, just past the lights at just over 120mph. The rear end locked up solid, and put me into a spin.
When I looked out the left side window and saw the starting line...I thought.."boy, I hope this roll cage holds up..!"
Well, me and the car went into the dirt into the side of the left lane, finished the spin, whatever had the rear locked up, unlocked, I made the first turn-off road...still on all four tires.
As you did, I made another "light duty" run that day.
I later figured out mostly what had actually happened, but that's another long story.

So yea, a short wheel base car can live thru a 360 degree spin at the finish line..!

    Have fun.

    Mike

Take it from someone that's done that with almost the same set up.
It won't take too much tinkering before you dip into the 9's, and if you start to do it regularly your track will start bitching at you.
Now, I know you think you're not going fast enough to need it, but I want you to consider installing a chute. It will pull your outofshape ass back straight better than anything else you can think of. Ask me how I know that.

yeah my thread is an older one so it's changed a bit since I started it. I got it to run a best of 9.65 with a carb on gas. My local track is non-sanctioned and pretty liberal so the owner hasn't complained yet. I installed a chute a while back after that spin out just in case it got really squirrly and I had to straighten it out. Right now it has a Hilborn and I'm using alcohol now and just started some initial system checking at the track the weekend before last.

Maybe you could add a front hoop to that cage unless you need it taller. Lippy

I remember the picture of Don Garlits going through the traps at 300+MPH, upside down, backwards and on fire. That was pucker power.

How's that thing handle the bumps in the shutdown area..around the traps...???(Lapeer),
have seen several cars get out of shape out there...and the black stipes across the track are most likely the tar road sealer, as the track in question was built in the '60's and has not changed much...he was still using the original Chondeck timing system when I was going there alot in the early 90's..I know he slurry sealed the track, and it helped a bunch, but the cracks in the asphalt tend to return..And since he is an outlaw track (no association affiliation) you tend to get some scary fast cars "test & tuning " for the local grudge races...was there one sunday, early in the year , and saw a "street bike" run a 6 somthing at just under 200 mph....road race slick , 2"over swing arm & a big turbo...Cool car, it looks like Mr Kinsler got you going in the right direction...Shawn

yeah Lapeer is where I mostly run because its so close to my home. Early on I had a really hard time controlling it on the shut down. It feels every bump in the road and what I found worked best was to go through the traps and slowly let off the gas then eventually begin stabbing the brakes. That took most of the drama out of the shut down. Kinsler is close to my shop and I've used them for small hardware since they are close by but Mike Chilando owner of Alkydigger.com was the one who held my hand and walked me through the conversion. I started out with a vintage NOS Hilborn 2 1/8 manifold and he helped me outfit the rest of my system and get it up and going. He's a nice guy with a lot of patience and I'd recommend him to anyone doing mechanical injection for the first time.
