Excuse my ignorance here, but did the/FD indicate these cars were made to run in fuel dragster classes? I knew about A, B, and blown fuel dragster classes, but can not recall seeing a C or blown CC class. Tom S.
NHRA put the early cars on fuel in the dragster class because they had no class for them.No official Funny Car class in NHRA existed then. Think Gene Snow won Comp at Indy.
i seem to remember this car , but barely . can anyone tell me about it ? what engine did it use , and was it very successful ? where was it from ? any more photos ? jack edit - could this be the old "psycho" mustang ?
TAP TAP TAP ......is this thing on ? is anyone out there , or is this the end of the line for the AWB thread ? i'd really like to know something about the "orion" mustang pictured above . i seem to remember the car , but it may have been another car called "orion" . any help ? joel ? are you out there ? jack
Looks like a car that was just built similar to the Psycho to me. A lot of guys put late model bodies on their Altereds so they could run match races as Funny Cars.
hey bucksnort - as you're the guy who originally posted the pic of "orion" - do you know anything about it ? jack
the "psycho" mustang originally used a fiat body , and held it's class record . it was powered by a 427 ford wedge , and it always looked to me like they just dropped the mustang body on the original chassis . one of the mags featured the car back in the '60's . if anyone is interested , i can post the photos . jack P.S. - but i'd still like to know about the "orion" . love that purple !!
Jack, I don't know anything about the Orion Mustang ... I've seen pictures of it but I was never interested in re-bodied altered/funny cars ... so I never really paid attention. I imagine that it was a local car ... CA maybe? Sorry. Joel
