Me thinks we're all sharecroppers Projections...cause of much trouble! Solar is available, and demands a whole lot of ingenuity to make it prove out, when compared against short-term polluting combustion based electrics. In the long term I believe it is simply one of the better sources of useful energy. You can breathe, you can live next door, and it's most catastrophic failing won't equal the nuke's problems.
yup. It's all about economics. You can't convert solar power to electricity for less than the cost of making electricity with coal. As long as electricity made from coal is cheap, and electricity made from solar is expensive, we will be getting most of it from coal.

Last year I was thinking a lot about building something electric. I figured that it'd cost about the same for me to use as if gas went back to about $1.25/gallon. But the motors aren't cheap, the batteries less so, and the controllers... ouch. So, I said WTF and started scraping together parts to build a tunnel rammed 489 for my truck. Yeah, and they go just a little bit better, too! Love that car... I doubt you'd score all the batteries for a Prius for $2400. BTW, I read a book on the environment - by Jared Diamond (not some goddamn left-leaning, tree-hugging greenie but a sensible 'sees both sides' kind of guy); a lot of the metals used in these hybrid batteries, in catalytic convertors, and O2 sensors (rhodium, palladium, platinum, lithium, etc.) really fuck up the environment where they're mined. But that ain't done here. NIMBY wins. -bill
Also gas in the states isn't too bad it like $1.00 plus in canada a liter and there is 4 liters in a gallon so not too good.
I have to admit I had some thoughts wondering what the GM 6.2 Diesel from 80s trucks, could do in a lightweight hot rod. I decided it could mostly cause headaches and look like hell, but... it's another option.
hahh if one of my freinds ever even thought about doing anything with a prius I would smack the mess out of them and i would expect the same from them if I wound up astray why not thats same glass T with a 4 banger weather it would be out of an A or a pinto or what ever those bangers from the 80s were that looked like offys i think that would be a much better thing to do and then people wouldnt laught at you
jeez, why ruin a good hot rod with a shitty power plant. run the hamster wheel shit in the daily and leave the real engine in the hot rod. here is another alternative, steam! ha ha.

cruzr i agree with you all the way i love music i play bass a little but i love to hear an engine. it dont matter to me what kind i have a honda with one of them damn bean cans on it... yeah i know dont blame me its from a previous owner...and a V6 dodge with holes in the exhaust and i love to hear them run. haha the holes happen to be from a cold chissel and a big hammer but thats alright

Electric conversions on vehicles have come quite a ways since then. My understanding is that the aircraft parts don't have the durability for long-term use. Of course, that mostly comes from websites attempting to sell brand-new electric motors as part of a conversion kit, so they have a stake in the matter. -Dave
I read about on here last week ,so I look in to it .Any one can make one ,if you can build your car you can make a cell . I put it on my truck yesterday took a drive .It take off for the stop light and excellart so smooth .. I had to pull it out last night to put a vent in ..put back in today just got back for 50 miles drive my needle on the gas gauge did not move... the hard part is finding all the things to make ....I'll be passing a lot of gas stations... so look in to making one so you drive right by too.... do a lot of reading before wiring it up
I have heard of it as well, keep us posted. I know a guy in WA that is tinkering with that, he's retired. Sounds neat, but kinda in a 'too good to be true' way.
Don't kid a kidder .... this information is the quickest way to see yourself stuffed into the back of an unmarked black suburban and boxed up into a wooden crate by an old guy who will put you in the warehouse right next to the arc of the covenant. In other words, if this is for real, tell me more.
Oh, for those that haven't heard of this, you electrolytically crack water and feed the H2 to the engine to make it burn better / cleaner / more efficient. There are various posts here and on the internet about it. I haven't been able to wrap my head around cracking water with electrons and coming out energy ahead enough to improve anything (like fuel economy). It's why I asked to keep us posted, especially w/ mileage numbers (before and after would be exceptionally nice).
It takes energy to break water into hydrogen and oxygen. usually, more than you get in the outcome. Research is going on to make it more effiecient, so it's practical.
