House of Kolor has striping paint. If you have an auto paint supplier they may have it or get it. But mail order may be your best bet.

you can order one shot by mail as said above. Also I just bought one shot at a local art supply store here in NYC. Also check out local sign makers.

The 1-Shot website shows quite a few Texas distributors, most are Sherwin-Williams dealers. There's one "just up the street":D in Longview. Maybe your local guy can have it shipped in for you.

If you're just starting out it's even more important to use the correct paint. Why struggle and form bad habits with inferior products? 1-Shot is a highly-pigmented lettering enamel made especially for sign painting. Even though the lead has been removed by federal mandate it is still the paint of choice for most stripers.

Have you checked out Stripekult (archived info for beginners) or Pinhead Lounge?

  8. I've used just regular tremclad enamel(same as rustoleum), not quite as thick but worked great for practice, even striped my lawnmower with it.

I order my 1 Shot from Summit on eBay and usually have it in 2 days.

1-shot is best, but bulliten or 'sign-painters' enamel is decent to work with.
The House of Kolor product needs to be cleared over. Has decent flow, but it's substantially different when compared to 'traditional' 1-shot or 'sign painter's' enamel.

    That's all I know ...

As far as mail-order, give tcpglobal.com a try. Just looked at prices at Summit and TCP, metallic silver @ Summit $12 @ TCP $7.50. I get mine in 3-4 days but my orders go coast-to-coast!

I see a few sign supply places around your area from a quick google search, those would be one of your best places to hit up.

  13. ****Blick.com

1Shot in 4 oz. cans run $6.85 to $10.20 depending on colors. Most colors you will use are at the $7.50 area. Certain Metallics run around $11.60.
Blick also carries Mack & Kafka brushes. Call in the order and you'll probably see it at your door in two days.

Alternatives to 1Shot? I have a few cans of Chromatic that I've had good luck with, but it's still a high pigment lettering enamel comparable to 1Shot.

IIRC: TCP sells 4 oz cans, Summit sells 8 oz.
Of the two, Summit is a much better value.

I did a post here, comparing the prices of several colors, at different suppliers.
Also posted it on Ray's yahoo group.

There are several places online that sell and ship 1-Shot.
Earl Mich, Bear Air, Midwest Sign Supply, Coast Airbrush, etc.

Thanks Unkl, I looked at the part #s and didn't see a 8 oz option on tcp. Found a new supply!

    Man the HAMB is great!

I tried Rustoleum, it tacks up too quickly.

Lettering Enamels have a longer open time, before they tack up.

Just spend the extra couple of bucks on shipping from ebay, coast airbrush wherever. and have the right paint. So u can take the guess work out of "why is this not working like I want it to" Because ull have plenty of that with even the right paint. Dont bother with urethanes yet. More expensive all around and dries very fast for a person wiping a lot. Plus needs clear. just get a can of one shot and depending on your area a suitable thinner. I use mineral spirits here in mid-weather la. 10 bucks a gallon at local hardware store. I wouldnt recommend custom shop personally. U have to by there thinner to break down the material. I got one can of there thinner for free one time doin a booth and happen to score a **** load of there paint from a friend but the smells warnings and other things made me stay with the one shot. If u do get urethane, house of kolor is pretty good. Gets in the expensive range though.

Plus think about it this way. 1 little 4 ounce can will make a lot of lines. A lot! unless ur pourin it into a cup and then thwowin it out.

Check with your local Sherwin Williams store. 1Shot's website shows SW as a retail alternative. You may have to order it, but it's an option.
