I have a 351W in my 59 that has what look to be a alternator that has a signal wire from the regulator going into it. It works but would like to change it to a newer style alternator. Anyone have any tricks to set this up easy? What to Use? And what is in it now? It came this way when I got it.

You should be able to find a schematic somewhere. I'm using a 63 amp GM 3-wire with an after market harness.

I like to use the 3G swap and just use a factory Ford alternator. I have not had a lot of success with brand new jobber alternators in my hotrods that don't get driven alot. If you google 3g swap there is tones of info and replacements are easily available if something should happen.
