Alternator

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by magnuman, Mar 10, 2010.

  1. I want to use this alternator on a restoration I am working on.
March says it's for Mopar applications. I am thinking about using it for a bbc. It is a single wire with an internal requlator, 100 Amp alternator.
I am making my own custom brackets.

Is there any reason it shouldn't work?

    March P95 alternator.

No reason I can think of. You've already acknowledged the bracket issue in going Mopar to BBC.

They have a nice style too. It'll work well.

Outside of getting the right pulley for the V belt I don't see any problem. I don't really think that it is that hard to swap it out.
We are ***uming that you intend to run a V belt.

You might get away with using the stock mounting bracket with just a spacer adjustment to line the pulley up with the other pulleys to get the belt straight. The bracket to adjust it might take a bit of fitting though.

Years ago a lot of guys preferred the Mopar alternators for alternator swaps and they are as reliable as anything.

Also ask "What if it breaks down in BF Idaho"?
That's why I switched from 1wire to 3wire GM alternator

Magnumam, outside of it just being flat pretty what other reason are you considering that particular alternator?

I wouldn't be too excited about the "if it ****s out on the road" thing as like 440Roadrunner said, there is always a way around that.

Most of the time I advocate going with pieces that can easily be repaired or replaced if they give out in "BF Idaho" but this time I don't see that as a real issue. The good thing about most alternators with a somewhat standard size case that you can McGiver something at most any parts house or wrecking yard that will get you home without a lot of effort.

"BF Idaho" - - No offense intended, but to me it is far from home and sounds isolated.

"1 wire alternator" - - I changed to 3 wire for two reasons: 1st it's hard to find a 1 wire regulator, and 2nd, I didn't want to put another gage in the car so I put an IDIOT light in. It must have the three wire setup to work.
