On Flatheads in the Track Roadsters, since they are bare bones, I use a 35 amp Denso. IMG_0604.JPG

This small one is a mid-80s Suzuki Samurai application and is supposed to put out 55 amps. The only loads I have are lights, radio and ignition.

Kubota tractor alternators are small enough that with a bit of work, can be stuffed inside an AC Delco generator housing

On the avatar, a Bosch 120A alternator running into a sealed deep cycle gel-cell battery to fit into the limited under-hood space. The setup horrifies my local battery mob... apparently you are not supposed to use that type of battery the way I do.

It works. Cranks over the 10.5:1 Chev without problem, even when doing extended compression tests on all eight. It runs for a week while I am home, then sits idle for three weeks. Runs happily in Sydney traffic, freeway, or north of 6000rpm at the track. I'm getting 5-7 years out of a battery. No signs of overcharging or damage.

Interestingly it needs a throttle blip to self-excite the alternator each start up (won't self-excite at idle).

    Cheers,
    Harv

Pretty low amp. Worked great until I put on a smaller crank pulley for tie rod clearance. Still works ok, except with lights on and at idle.

This is what I run too. With the electric fan (comes on once in a while) it draws 21 amps, I will upgrade it to a 95 or 100 amps once it ****s out.

I got mine from a late 90s Taraus and the wiring harness from an early 00's Mustang V6. It's a 110 amp but I have a few extras that I'm going to use. Just gotta find a V pulley that fits.
