aluminum frame ??

Worked for the DC-3 for the last 80 some odd years .... ha

olcurmdgeon.. I was thinking of the same Rod.. trying to remember which mag it was in.. always thought it would be a hell of a ride to recreate ...

 

Why?

 

I remember seeing an old slingshot from the late 50's early sixties that was made with a pair of aluminum teardrop shaped wing struts from I believe an old cessna. was an odd looking frame for sure

 

Why not use stainless steel?

 

Those are tempered steel. Welding one would disturb the temper, and likely lead to cracking.
