I bought an aluminum intake off ebay it is a KMJ4000 (Sorry Jim I know its Chinese!) and now that Im looking at it closer I dont see a Thermostat housing or even a place to put a thermostat. Does the thermostat mount in the intake manifold on a 289? I'm confused. The reason i went with this one is it is cheap and I dont want to put much into this engine that I'm only going to keep a short time while i save up for a 302 but wanted a little bling.
All Windsor small blocks (221/255/260/289/302/351W) had the thermostat in the intake manifold. Only Clevelands had the thermostat in the front/ top of the block. Are you sure that the intake is for a Windor small block?
dose this look like the intake you got? if so the place it gose is on the front of the intake in the snout that sticks out furthest.
Yes thats the one, I couldnt see the hole on the part that sticks out. Thanks now my blood pressure can go back down LoL
Mark , I new where it was made when you should it to me the first time . It looks like a copy of the Performer RPM intake buy I hope it's duel plane intake . A single plane won't be the best for a sock engine . I would buy a 570 Holley Street avenger for that engine . I have used them a lot on 289's and they run very good on them . Jim
That is the same intake I have had for 3 years on my 302 same design as an Edelbrock Performer RPM the finish on it is far better than the Edelbrock I had before which had a lot of casting flash,it wipes clean and still looks like new and the bottom end mid-range power is awesome it also has front and rear water p***ages which gives more equal cylinder cooling and allowed more room for use with the HEI since I put the temp sender in a rear p***age.I had a 600 Holley on it and it worked OK since I buy and sell carbs to get play money I found a polished Finish New Carter Compe***ion Series 9635S 625CFM and swapped to it as it matches the manifold finish. The Carter seems to perform better than the Holley did and plays nice with the AOD's hookup, the jetting is all original and identical to an Edelbrock 1405.
i bought my edelbrock performer from streetsideauto.com with coupon and free shipping it was $120..you can't beat that..
I mounted it to the engine today and it went on pretty good, the studs were a tad short but i was able to get it tight anyways. I will have to find the torque specs and then torque it down better before trying to crank it. I also will have to figure out a linkage setup for the carb to fit my car but all in good time.
Torque is only 15-18 lbs, after you run it for a couple of hours recheck the torque.NEVER overtorque aluminum no matter what brand it is.Use the recommended torque sequence from a motor manual.
Start in the middle, work your way out with a 3/8 ratchet and snug them up. Go over it about 3 times to get it settled in place. I haven't torqued an intake in 20 years, not that it is a bad thing. LOl.
