Lightly sandblast the surface to be painted. Spray a couple coats of zinc chromate primer and refinish with your favorite paint. That's it in a nutshell. Your paint supplier can give you more specific information relating to the brand paints that you will be using. Wear proper respirator and safety equipment. Good luck.

I agree with sandblasting but I would sand the aluminum with 180 grit paper after sandblasting then spay epoxy primer followed with paint of your choice.

  5. Had a set we painted last summer. The powder coat was peeling. Blasted off the powder coat, sanded with 180 then epoxied.
    Base/clear the following day

Clean "well" and paint ! Has suited me well.
These wheels are aluminum. I searched for a paint color that somewhat resembled oxidized magnesium. I found a close color in a primer. I cleaned the wheels with brake clean, and painted them.
I haven't touched them in any touchup in six years since I painted them.

  7. b4 after.jpg Living here in rust belt, corrosion of wheels under the clear coat is common. What's worked for me is stripping the wheels, scuffing with red scotchbrite, cleaning, then spray bomb self-etching primer. Spray the color then and it holds for some time.
