I won't say you are wrong, and putting parts in places they don't belong is what hot rodding started out as and continues to be. BUT, there are certain things that just seem wrong, and putting a Ford in a Mopar seems that way to me. I short, I wouldn't do it, I would sell the Ford motor and find a decent 360 and overdrive trans in a wrecking yard and for less money than it cost to build the Ford have "More power than you know what to do with".
Murphy's law says that when you get the 351 installed in your Plymouth and are out on a test drive you will find a 383 next to a dumpster down the street, but no prob there just throw it in the Merc?
Years ago, the 70s, a guy in our car club installed a 289/C4 combo in his 48 Plymouth Coupe. He changed the steering to a Mustang/Falcon/Cougar/Maverick/etc. too. Had to sink it slightly into the frame rail but it worked real well after slicing the pitman arm together. It was a nice, dependable, cool running piece and had A/C installed very quickly. This was the days you pieced together A/C systems from junkyard parts, no Vintage Air etc. Have fun.
i sold the cougar (minus the engine) because i always wanted to build a fat fendered hot rod. I was looking for a 40's Ford when i came across the Plymouth.... it was too nice to pass up.
Coulda, woulda, shoulda.................when people start that crap I juts look at em and say "rule 1" applies dude. Now what is rule 1 you say? Rule 1: F--em, just f--em
Im putting in a 302 ford in my 52 stude, Donor car runs great and the whole thing eng/tran/ disk brake rear, I have 400 invested .As been said, this is hot rodding, if you don't like it don't look or knock it......
I'd wanna keep it all mopar if it were mine but I'll be the first to admit that drivin' it around with a ford motor will be a lot more fun than sittin' on the porch steps waitin' for the day you can afford a mopar engine. Build the mongrel...
+1 saying run your ford, while my hood was open at Bob's some clown said to me "why didn't you just put a chevy in it" car is 55 Oldsmobile with original engine.
Most of the people who tell me what I should have put in my truck get real quiet when I ask them what they put in the ones they've built...
