Call it what you want but THANK GOD for people, whatever label some people place on them that " saved " or kept or " hoarded" ...if not for them we would all be buying Chinese **** from speedway. IMHO hoarders keep every newspaper and sandwich w****r they ever acquired, REAL fans of anything old that has aesthetic value or use because it is old loathe having it lost forever....I have a bunch of stuff that I will most likely never use but it's not all about me, some point in the future ( and I hope it's the DISTANT FUTURE someone or multiple someone's will say " man I'm glad that crazy old man saved that stuff!
I do that with just about every product or appliance that was once ***embled together, now headed to the trash, dump or recycler. I've got coffee cans full of screws, nuts and bolts, clips, washers, spacers, knobs, micro switches, doodads and dingbats. I've saved a thousand trips to the hardware store, plus gas and legal tender. I caught the habit from my dad. It's not my fault.
OCD? As I see it, the ONLY thing wrong with you is, you don't have ENOUGH storage space. Every time I toss something out, a little while later, I need just what I tossed out; now I really consider what's good to keep, and what's good to go. I save fasteners from things I've taken apart before s****ping. In my career (X-Ray/CAT Scan Tech), I had access to a LOT of outdated radiology equipment. The stuff costs $$$$$$$$$$ when purchased new, but is only worth $ at takeout time. I have a ton of fasteners from old X-Ray machines, in both metric and SAE sizes and, they're stored in X-Ray roll film storage canisters (about the size of 1 quart oil cans) with Tupperware style lids. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
