With the exception of one rodder, everyone I've talked to hates the new 30 year rule by NSRA. But, if you read Streetscene (June 2009) everyone just loves the idea. Street Rodder Mag.(Aug 2009) quotes, "The manufactures are 100% behind the expansion: the membership has been overwhelmingly in favor, say 98%." I can see why the manufactures are in favor of it, they're just selling stuff. Has nothing to do with rods.
I guess I'm just talking to the wrong people.
When I sent in my renewal, I sent a letter of protest. I told them this will be my last year if a bunch of shitbox cars start showing up.

Bottom line: It's a business. Pay to play, or hit the road.

  3. Is show attendance down enough they need newer cars to pull in the numbers to make money? Is membership down ... repeat the rest of the last question?

    Probably.

Are they going to admit membership isn't in favor of something if it means more $$ and more members?

    probably not.

  4. I feel it is just a business deal. Which seems to rule everything nowdays. The biggest drawback I see is the folks that are in to those kinds of cars have a different view of what would be accepable behavior.

Rodders vs Rodders. Jeeze, you'd think since we all like cutting up cars, that everybody would just get along. All NSRA has done is support, in general, hot rodding, for the past 40 odd years.

Now, where did I leave my gold chains, cowboy boots and Jordasche, jeans?

I thought the whole point of going to a street rod event was be with street rodders, people that have the same interests and experiences as yourself. Next year you'll probably have to park beside a tubbed camaro with a blower sticking thru the hood and trip over his wheelie bars. Fuck That! NSRA management wants to let finance instead of principle be its' guide then they'll do so without me.
I can accept that street rodding (as we know it) may be a dying art form but i have respect for what it is and the history it represents. NSRA has forgotten its' own roots, worse, they are disrespecting the pioneers that got them here to begin with.
    Sore subject...

NSRA guy I talked to at York admitted the current membership is dying off and they need the numbers. He repeated the company line that "most members are in favor of it". I think the fall off in old time rodders will be greater than they think. And if I was a manufacturer,I'd be behind bigger sales anyway I could. Vendors were down like 40% at York this year.

The last thing I care to see is a lowered ford fairmont. But it has been a long time since I have been to a NSRA show.

Well, let's see...NSRA ignored my '61 Starliner, '60 Starliner, '59 Ford ragtop, '57 Ford 2dr, '57 Ranchero, '50 Merc, and '49 Merc. over the years. If that stuff wasn't good enough for them then, why should I support the big change in direction now?

The NSRA has NOTHING to do with traditional hot rods or customs.
