Almost since the start of the build,,I had NO idea on how the pedals could be mounted in my truck. As quoted by my dad,,who probably quoted some guy I don't even know,,"It's like trying to put 5 lbs. of stuff into a 10 lb. bag." Well, the other weekend at a garage sale,,he had a set of Jamar pedals just sitting on a crate. I pick it up and ask him for a price,,he says,,"5 bucks?" Long story short,,2 hours later they are mounted with me sitting in the seat pressing away.:D Lol.

So now that my excitement for that day has been told,,do any of you HAMbers out there have any stories you'd care to share??:D

I like how you installed them upside down to make them swing pedals.

I seldom ever find a good garage sale, but recently I walked up to one and there was a crate with 4 Holley 94's I bought for $20. Two of them looked like they were pulled off running cars they were so clean.

People here in Iowa are pretty frugal. Lots of garage sales but the good stuff is pretty well picked over by the time people put it out to sell. I cannot say that I've ever found any real bargains at garage sales. Now farm and estate auctions are a whole different matter. Small farms have been going out of business for decades and their "stuff" usually gets sold at auction. Farmers never threw anything away and almost every farm sale is a treasure hunt.

Wasn't a garage sale but a deal no less. My wife bought a book at a library sale for .25 then it sold on ebay for $160.

Unless your firewall is 3/8s plate you are going to find it will flex like mad as I don't see any stiffening ribs etc. What I've done in simular builds is run a tie bar from the bottom of the pedal mount plate up to the dash rail. The dash rail has a lot of shape to it and is stiff. Where in Az are you?

  14. Bought a box of misc. hardware at a garage sale and found a mint fresh B.O.P. 2bbl carb with the vacuum starter switch. I saw it at first, but didn't know what I had 'til I got home.
Also, got a Holley 3310 that was used for 200 miles for $5 from some broad who was selling off all her ex's stuff.

I live in the oh-so fabulous town of Lake Havasu City,,lol.
Actually I'm going to make a ribbed plate that goes on top of the firewall. For strength and for the name "ribbed for her pleasure"..:rolleyes:At this point in the build I'm just making sure everything will fit together before it's painted,,so I haven't bothered making the other plate yet.:D But thanks for the warning.

  17. Took 2 books out of a dump bin a couple of weeks ago and got $100.00 for the pair on Ebay! Bought 2 1940 hockey statistic books at a yard sale and got $200.00 for the pair on...you guessed it! Ebay....

  18. Tools! If you look around at a garage sale or an estete sale there is always a tool box full of tools for 5 or 10 bucks, (unless I've already been there.) I was cleaning up in the shop just this afternoon and had to stop to shake my head at the stack of old tool boxes I've collected from auctions, garage, yard, estate sales etc...

I bought an engine for a 05 stanley steamer, totally complete, at an estate sale for 100 dollars, and I still have it in my basement. They thought it was a pump or something.

  20. Four years ago I stopped in on a garage sale only to leave with a complete, solid unaltered Model A pickup bed with tailgate, no dents or rust for $50.00. Even the wood is nice!

My girlfriend's father called me about a pair of finned aluminum valve covers at a garage sale he saw...I went over and found 'em, they were Cal Custom's for a SBC, asked the guy if he had any other old hot rod parts, he went to a shed behind the garage and pulled out a Chevy Roto-Faze, and pair of 15 X 7 magnesium Americans...
Cal Custom VC's & Roto-Faze were $10 ea. and the American's were $20 for the pr.!

I find estate sales much better then garage sales. I was at one a couple years ago, they had a several boxes of car parts, nothing exciting. I was still picking out a few things I could use or swap meet when the son asked if I was into old cars. When I said yes he said why don't you take all the car parts for $25. As I was loading the boxes he came out of the house and said 'you might as well have these too, I turned around and he had a stack of Hollinders from 1938 to 1966, just threw them in the deal!

Went to an estate sale in Pasadena TX some months ago, no car stuff at all in the garage or shed yet in the bookcase was a 1954 Trend hot rod annual in mint condition.
Went to one in Deer Park TX yesterday, got a nice assortment of files for $1 each and one of those rubber valve stem pullers for 50 cents.

In this area there are many many estate sales from old guys who worked in the plants here before and after WWII. Sometimes they are full of goodies, others, nothing but household stuff.

    That's a great photo. LOL.

  28. You may not have garage sales, but you have plenty of other stuff worth flying over for!!!
Here in my suburban town we have a garage sale day, where there may be 10 garage sales on every block!!! I'm usually lucky if I can hit half of them in the one day, and usually fill my truck up 4 to 5 times.
I couldn't even begin to remember all the great stuff i've found, but here's some; A 68 mustang, old car parts, tools, antique wrenches, fish tanks, ponds, boats, old magazines, (old car ads) beer fridges, scoots/motorcycles, car parts, Gargoyals, and friends. Garage sales are a great way to meet the people in your town!
One of my motto's is, "Garage sales are Gods way of getting you the stuff that you want, or need." I find this to be proven true time and time again.

Not a garage sale find. But I got some free steel wheels yesterday. One of my neighbors was moving and left them on the curb. Havent checked the bolt pattern yet, but they still have some old bias plys on them.

I stopped by a guy selling used single drill bits on a picnic table in his yard. I bought his 65 coronet 2 door sedan complete that was barely visible in his garage under lots of stuff. The stuff was also for sale.
