Did both Phaetons start with 1 0f 32 limited edition Brookville bodies? Just wondering, not a good or bad, right or wrong question.
Got to remember, these cars were not built to impress the traditional crowd, they are hi end street rods built with no expense spared and built by some of the best builders, like it or not they are what sets the stage for future builds. I could never afford to build anything to give these guys a run for the money but I tip my hat to the vision & talent in each and everyone of the cars shown. After looking at them all my favorite is this beauty. HRP
I was thinking it would be nice driven out into one of those desert ranges that the A-10's use for target practice........buurrrrrrrrrrrrttttttttttt
This was done by Squeeggs out of AZ. It started as one of the Brookville bodies and was completely reshaped. There is a ton of little details in this car that have to be seen in person. The display is right in line with the car as well.
Pretty sure the Engle Brothers in Colorado did the fabrication on this car. Squeege did paint and body and final assembly.
They started the car, but it went to squeegees, and the metal man Matt Tomb reshaped the entire back end of the car. Doug made us all not post any pics at all till it was finished. For his big open house in November, the car was somewhat hidden away, so no photos would be leaked out.
Man, I was gonna exercise my Miranda but after seeing all the above comments I'm not alone. I like the red phaeton the best, but both of them lose me all the way on the top profiles. Way too far fwd. ½ of that change from the stock position woulda been near perfect. Maybe somebody can photoshop it to see what I mean. The black 33-4 looks like it started as a Speed33. Hard to tell being black and shadowed so bad. The whitewalls are, well, the jury is still out. The only thing kool about the blown BBC is the blown BBC. The rest look like a Hot Wheels car. I'm sure the craftsmanship is great but it doesn't vibe well. I guess the black Deuce rdstr might be the 1. I wish I could see it in better light. Hey, how many insane paint jobs got inspired by Coby's? Gotta be 1 or 2. Too far away for me, but one of these days. Royalshifter has a sexy pair of cars in there, seen em on IG, sure to get good splash here. Looking fwd to HAMB coverage as always. And, oh well on the pic rules kids. This is once a year for a very traditional award. Doesn't even cause an itch, and it shouldn't. Embrace it, regardless of certain certains. Just my take, peace...
Ryan's last statement carries good weight. Hot rods have always been about personal choice. If you build your own stuff and your level of perfection is way up there, how can you not appreciate the efforts of the builders? Cubic money, probably. But skill and results are there. How many people can do that level of work no matter how much time they have? AMBR has evolved with trends through out the years. Should that be discounted? Some of the pics don't do much for me but after seeing many of the cars in person, I'm humbled at the level of craftsmanship. Freedom of choice.
...just think of all the cool "drivers" someone could build with the bucks invested in any one of these cars, and have lots of money left over ...I do like the flames on the hiboy tub,...they look like California Kid flames. and I like the 34 roadster.
These cars were built and displayed to be judged. By the judges and by the peanut gallery no requirement of skill level is needed to have an opinion I can’t play the piano but I do know when a note is sour or not. I’ve been on the other side of the peanut gallery, the not so flattering comments are just background noise. Back at the shop we found the internet discussions entertaining. So post whatever opinion ya have.
Only pic I had at the time. Here’s one with the young lady not blocking the view of the car im kinda digging the color with the black wheels.
The craftsmanship on these cars is always stunning. What I find lacking is the overall design. You can have the finest craftsmen build a house, but if the overall design leads to an ugly duckling, then what a waste of craftsmanship. On the plus side, it helps keep shops afloat and even prosperous. That red 32 with the blower is just clunky looking to me. The phaetons remind me of something the Monkees would drive. I would love to be blown away by these.... and they wouldn't have to be traditionally styled for that to happen.
I vote for the tub, the spokes remind me of the early '80's, before street rods got neon paint, directional wheels, and gray tweed interiors. I would drop the back of the tub a couple inches, a little too much rake! Just my opinion! Click: https://famosodragstrip.com/swap-o-rama/
I just don't get it, that is the second entry that spent untold time and money to build a show car and hub caps were too costly?
