Here is the body of the short article:

    "Street Rods and Hot Rods
    AMBR pick causes controversy
It seems as though a revolt is brewing against the organizers of the Grand National Roadster Show.

While Internet forums typically foster much grousing, very few of the desktop grousers actually make any effort to confront the source of their problems. When the ranks of the traditional hot rodders bristled at the selection of another beige street rod as America’s Most Beautiful Roadster recently, though, Ryan Cochran of the Jalopy Journal decided to take action.

Cochran has already built the H.A.M.B., the Internet’s largest traditional hot rodding forum, and developed three annual traditional hot rodding events – the H.A.M.B. Drags, the Hot Rod Revolution and the Hot Rod Cinematic. Rather than start his own indoor car show, as some have suggested, he preferred a course that wouldn’t discount the heritage of the GNRS.

“We already have a Grand National Roadster Show and the history that comes with it,” Cochran wrote. “Why throw that away? Instead, I propose we create and hand out our own award to the entry that we feel actually meets the standards of the cars that made this show ‘grand’ to begin with. There will be no connection with the promoters, no politics, no check sheets, and no bullsh--. We will be mavericks with a trophy and a purpose, and the winner will be the most beautiful damn roadster in America.

“Starting next year, The Jalopy Journal will no longer recognize the promoter’s pick as America’s Most Beautiful roadster. Instead, we will recognize our own.”

    Grousing, of course, ensued."

It was hardly classified information. There are 42,067 of us... pick one.

The trend has changed from people saying "have you heard of the HAMB" to "have you heard what was on the HAMB."

Cat (grouse?) is out of the bag Ryan - you have to do it now. They even chose a good the name from your rant: most beautiful damn roadster in America.

If I'm not mistaken, there's at least one, if not more, members of the Hemmings editorial staff who is (are) members of the HAMB

    me too.
...though i think i would prefer to see something in between what Ryan has suggested and what is in actual practice. i have no problem with the idea of judging but i do see problems with it and the way it is being done (from what i can see on the outside). i also believe that a title such as "Amerca's Most Beautiful Roadster" should not be bestowed apon a vehicle based on the opinion of 1, or even 2 or 3 or 4 people. i think it SHOULD be a comity that decides and there should be certain criteria that needs to be met and guidlines followed. (unlike what is currently being done) i think DESIGN and ASTHETICS needs to be on the TOP of the list of criteria.
if it is just a very small group of people deciding on this based simply on their own opinions and biases i think we will end up in the same boat we are now.
i've been privileged enough to have been able to help pick the Rod and Kulture Magazine "most traditional" pick at shows in the past. that does'nt mean we actually picked the "most traditional". it was based on our own tastes and biases. thats fine for small awards such as our magazine pick, and what not, but when you are talking about something as prestigeous and important as the "AMBR" there should be a little more consideration taken as to what vehicle is chosen for the award.
i totaly agree that the current winner is a flyin heap (style wise) and that all the politics and B.S. involved is ruining the prestige of the award but i don't think it is too late to bring it back.
if Ryan (or anyone) wants to give their own "AMBR" type award i welcome it, i just hope that they give proper consideration to everything relivant. don't just arbitrarily toss out all of the "GNRS" criteria for judging but rather improve apon it and fix what is (obviously) wrong with it and use THAT as the basis for your decision.

It is so funny that the first post i look at after hanging up with Zombie and having this very conversation was this one.

I just want to make sure we pick a winner based on our standards without knocking anyone else's ride just because it isn't HAMB-worthy.

And I'm pretty sure thats the plan

  25. I love it!! Now who do I half to Hire to build my Roadster so I can Win? We all know a Home Built Roadster can't win the First H.M.B.R. L.O.L.

..so what you are really doing is picking "People's Choice"....which has always been a popularity contest, rather than being based on building skills, and craftsmanship. different criteria, which is why some don't understand the award, or agree with it.

I would suggest using emailed entries, instead of limiting it to the show entries. AMERICA'S MOST BEAUTIFUL.. instead of THE ROADSTER SHOW'S MOST BEAUTIFUL..

  27. No, Ryan said there will be judges, unknown to the world. I am sure they will be as qualified as one could find.

The Hamb is definitely THE place for automotive info......go to ANY automotive forum, hot rod related or not, and search for "HAMB"....there WILL be posts referencing "this" place......

Worldwide hotrod DOMINATION is on the horizon.......:D

  30. The correct term is "HAMB TOTAL WORLD DOMINATION";)
