Any HAMBers going to the show? We're showing a Green Ferrari 250 Lusso for a customer, stop by and say hello. Alex aka 'Alfin32'
Frank Morawski and Jay Fitzhugh from MD will be there with the Fred Carrillo Bonneville roadster. Stop by and say hi...and tell him you're a HAMBer.
I plan to be there Sunday after Saturday at the Gator Nationals. What is the best way to find you guys? Cell? PM me if you want to trade cell numbers. Gary
Gang, Sunday's Amelia Isl show was my first "big" concours (is that car show in French?) and I was just blown away by the fantastic cars and, as the day went on, the almost impossibly huge crowd. It became difficult to take good pix. I was so overwhelmed by the number of cool cars to see I almost didn't know what to do, shoot photos or just look at them. So little time, as they say. I did make a point of seeking out the HAMBers mentioned above and their wide variety of cars. The green Ferrari was unusual to say the least and the restoration was just fabulous. The Aztec looks so much better outdoors in the sun and the Carrillo car was very, very cool. I have no idea how crazy you'd have to be to drive that thing at nearly 200 mph. I also met an old friend with a restored Escort that PL Newman did his baby steps road racing training in. Mostly, I was so happy to see the number of vintage American oval and road racing iron present, Kurtis, Deusy and all the Indy cars. An then there were the Allards, too. The Hot Rod cover cars were neat to see and they fit in very well. The day prior I went to the GatorNats for Saturday qualifying and the car show there was also very cool. Kurt Bush made the show, even. Big Daddy had a fantastic weekend with all kinds of honors. My favorite was the red roadster, a car built by Karl Kinser in the late 50's. More pix later after I have the time to edit them. Later, Gary
It was my first time attending and aside from the expected Grey Poupon crowd, the 268 mph carbon fiber Bugatti, and Bentleys it was an amazing collection of very serious race cars. We got there at 8:30 before the gates opened so I managed to get some decent photos. I was blwn away at the tremedous dedication these builders have to their cars. Here is what I have:
i was there too, with McPherson College. ggreat show, great folks (for the most part)...been there and pebble a couple of times each, but never seen a show with SO many cars i truly enjoyed enough to deserve more than a quick walk around...
Vic with his usual Venti Startbucks and Grimace face while hanging with "The Nurse" is classic Vic. That carbon fiber work on the Bugatti is impressive.....alone with everything else on that car. I have to get to this event next year.
Here is the $1.6mm carbon fiber wonder. It weighed a surprising 4800# but I guess you need the weight to keep it on the ground at over 260 mph
The HOT ROD Magazine cover cars were great. All 222 pictures that I took are at: http://www.jalopyweb.com Cadman
Not only was the show Sunday great, but, my friends and I attended the 'Hot Rod Lifestyles Seminar' at the Concours Friday. The moderator was Ken Gross and the panel consisted of Pete Chapouris, "TV" Tommy Ivo, Don Prudhomme, Dean Jeffries and Bruce Meyer. Seeing all these guys in person and hearing them tell their stories in their own words was phenomenal. Also, in the room during the seminar was the So-Cal coupe, Ivo's Showboat and a Prudhomme dragster. Seeing the So Cal coupe up close was worth the price of admission.
Isn't this the homebuilt GMC powered car from the cover of Car Craft in the 50's? Man, I would love to go, thanks for the pics.
The one and only supercharged Lancefield bodied Stutz is looking mighty fine I see. The chrome wires are a new addition.
I spoke with Frank Morawski this morning, and the Carrillo Roadster took a second in the Hot Rod Cover Car class. He was very pleased with that AND the way he was treated by the folks in charge.
I've always that it's a top notch show in many ways- always wanted to get down there while Bill Warner still owned the Edsel Speedster to get some better detail pics of it!
Gang, Ok, here we go. I cleaned up most of the pix the best I could, but cut-off heads and funny stuff around the edges were pretty much unavoidable. As were those dammed little signs in front of the cars. Many of them are a little contrasty, I think because of the fill flash, so the darker colors may appear too dark. Regardless, here are some pix of my favorite cars at the show. I know the names of many, but some I don't. The little red Abarth with the black top was probably my favorite sports car, and I had never seen one in person before. And Clark's Lotus, and that Kurtis... and... just so many amazing cars.
