today was a long one. we mocked up the motor at least 5 times before we got the firewall to work at the valve covers. the headers had to be centered just right over the steering box to clear it and we still need to get the z bar setting level to work smooth . its almost ready for the mounts to be welded in. I am on my second set of motor mounts trying to get them to work with the frame mounts.
Yep, the firewall in my 57 got the BFH treatment, too! I thought the side mounts moved a BBC forward to prevent that? Had to cut & weld the Z bar in mine as well. Looking good!
they do but we had to move them to the stock location to get the patriot headers to clear the steering box. if it is not in the stock position the tubes will hit the steeringb ox.
When it left Ruth's for TLB it did..Then car was used in AG..The one that was rolled over didn't and maybe the extras didn't but the main character car did...
Not to be a hater but what is it with american graffiti clones or other car movies?. It was a kool movie but why do something thats been done before? Sorry just my 2 cent.
I don't know but there have been many clones built to emulate bot the 55 Chevy and the 32 Ford coupe. I have never owned a 55 Chevy but I had friends in high school that owned them and they have always been a car I liked, especially when the rear wheel wells have been reworked. HRP
The 55 and 32 are such classics why do them like someone else has done? Hey to each there own. dw55 good luck on your project.
neat car.... Stock valve covers clear the firewall in my 55, with the engine set forward 3/4". but I'm not running a 4 speed, so I don't have to worry about clutch linkage. And I don't have fenderwell headers, which probably affects steering box interference. this pic is on a TLB web site.
I always figured that it was severe lack of imagination but there may be a rumor floating around that Goodguys is going to have a special "Grafitti clone" class so all the clones good or bad can park together at their events. He wants to be ready.
the headers were bought from summit .and I have all ways liked the looks of the ag car.i have had a lot of 55"s over the years and all ways liked black ones. i just sold a black one to build this one. when I get tird of it I will sell or trade it and do another 55. this is the one I sold last may. I also built this 56 truck and 55
News flash, pretty much everything we do and build here has been done before. That's kinda the idea here.
Mike im going to have to disagree with you on that one. Granted certain parts of the car building process have been done over and over but its the owner that picks his or her style, color, wheels interior, ect., ect. I guess what I was getting at with building a clone is that all the decisions have been made for you just follow the the instructions from the movie. Sorry for hi jacking the thread.
Nothing wrong with building a car that is similar to one you saw and liked. Hell, I steal ideas from other builders all the time. We think our cars our unique, but just about every trick has been done by someone else long ago. Besides, how does it possibly affect you how another person chooses to build their personal car ? (It doesn't) Don
Ya, I understand and for the most part agree with what you are saying. No matter what combination of traditional parts, processes, custom mechanical and cosmetic tricks that are used in the buiding of a car today, chances are that the same combination has been used many times before. My poorly made point is that most traditional cars built today are very likely a clone or near clone of something that came before, the builder just may not know it.
"Why do something that has been done before...." Odd comment coming from someone who owns a 32 Ford Sedan , .
I like black and chrome reverse wheels and I have already had a white 150. even if it were another color it would remind car people of the ag car.
