American-built wheels?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by patrick66, Jan 12, 2009.

  1. No, not necessarily the company American Wheels, but I'm asking what current wheels are out there that are actually built in the US or Canada? I went wheel-shopping recently, and every single wheel I saw was Chinese-built! Understanding the truly crappy quality of Chinese tools, the thought of having wheels that come from there really makes me think twice about running ANY recent-made aftermarket wheels at all!

I've got two old Crestline wheels that I want to use on my wagon. I notice that the new American Torq-Thrusts are sourced in China - my original plan was four of those, but WTF? I guess a pair of painted steel wheels on the rear and the Crestlines up front would look good, but I'd really like some new wheels that I can trust. We know definitively that the Chinese use the cheapest and weakest metal in most of their tools. I don't want to be a test case in having one of their wheels breaking off my car at 70 mph!

Anybody have some knowledge on this???

the chinese use american metal to make them.

  3. They use American metal to make stuff for THEM, then use the slag to make stuff like tools for the US market. Again, anyone know FOR CERTAIN about the Chinese sourced wheels???

Yeah, on another thread I said that now if you buy a closed drive conversion kit from Speedway(Purveyor of cheap Chinese Shit) it is no longer the quality product produced by the HAMB's very own 28rpu. It is now made in China. It is a blatant copy also the bastards didn't even bother to change something cause they got lawyers and the little guy can't even begin to fight them.

I will be using american made wheels from the Wheel Kid on all of my cars in the future.

It's a shame there's not some sort of backlash building regarding Chinamen junk and the selfish suits who profit from that sort of thing. Always had regard for Speedy Bill and others, but no more.

559-347-9665. I don't do anything but steel and wire wheels though.

  11. I was on your site and looking at your chrome steelies - that might be the ticket for the wagon, as I really hadn't considered them before. Nice looking wheel!

  13. These are good wheels, and a direct knock off of the American Torque Thrust II's. They are made here, and are good quality. They keep a pretty low profile trying to dodge American's lawyers. I used their 16X8's on the rear of my roadster because they have 3/4" more back space than Americans and fit the car better. Absolutely cannot tell them from the Americans on the front.

Not positive, but I think these guys, www.thewheelsmith.net are using only US-sourced hoops and centers.

You mean we sell something other than CHINA made in the USA. Try to buy a sneaker that is not made in another country. That is along way to drive to work just ask the unemployed!

Enkei has a plant in Indiana. Actually drove past it about a hundred times. They also have plants all over the globe.

Team III/ET are for sure imported...talked to the head cheese at GG/Columbus this past summer. He was actually bragging about how efficient, quick, cheap, yada, yada he is able to market these things.

The only true American made wheel that's not a steelie variation is Real Rodders Wheels from Pat O'Brien.....formerly Eric Vaughn's product. I just bought my second set from him for the new Willys project. They are (as compared to imports) higher priced, but the quality, finish, and most important customer service, is beyond compare. You call, you talk to Pat himself. If you get voicemail, he does call back...personally.

He is the man for the traditional look "mag" wheel, Halibrand look alike, 5 spokes, and spindle mounts.

  27. It may have changed but I got the word from Scott a handfull of years back that they came from our pals of British lineage living south of the equator.

But, if they are now from China would it make a difference if you knew his wife is Chinese? My wife has Danish blood, if I started importing tires from over therre because she had family connections would it mean anything? Patriotism and loyalty are one thing........Hitler had quite a few loyal patriotic Germans following him. Yes, I speak in riddles and we do need to get more production back here. But, there may be more side to the story than folks may know. Fact is, WE demanded cheaper products, I wont go any farther because I am going into a socio-economic diatribe.
