There is a movie out now called The Fighter. That guy could pull off being Milner ( Wahlberg ? )

I think you are underestimating the number of American Graffiti fans by about a magnitude.

I think they made that, it was called Rooster Cogburn (... and the Lady).

Regarding Shia LeBouf, the buzz about him as Falfa must come from the latest Indiana Jones film. To me somebody his age (24) would be better in the role than somebody Harrison Ford's age at the time AG was shot (30).

Either that, or Falfa should have been driving a '62 409 Impala with paper plates when he came to challenge Milner. The whole hot rods versus muscle cars thing would have made an interesting subplot.

A remake could be cool... but then again, I'd hate to see Milner in an Eclipse and Falfa in a 'wicked' black Civic. 'Updating' AG would ruin it.

I like alot of the ideas of the pre-quel. Toad could be mowing yards and doing odd jobs and when asked if he plans to buy a car, he could say, heck no, a VESPA! Girls just love motorcycles and this is almost a motorcycle. :D

    TRON-erize it.

An old Steve gets sucked into a computer and has to fight his way out against computerized Milner and Falfa. Toad is a computer programmer on the outside who's bitter about his life.

True grit wasnt a remake of the original movie per say....it was more based on the book, yes it was a book first! Second alot of you are thinking we are talking about a AG remake, we are not... I know there is talk about a remake but we are discussing a prequel..

And some FBI guys show up to take him because he is "special", and they don't want the other side getting their hands on him... Wait...this is starting to sound kinda familiar...

IMO a prequel to the original American Graffiti would be great, but a remake, PLEASE -NO WAY. Why would anyone ruin a good thing? Never mind, I just answered my own question, some people have more money than common sense. Which is why this will probably happen. And another sequel, well just look at sequels in general, they usually suck. Just look at More American Graffiti (although it did have some good vintage drag racing with Steve Evans announcing, Milner, more great music, etc.) Smokey & The Bandit II, Caddyshack II, Porky's II & III, the Rocky movies, and the list goes on and on. The sequels are never as good as the originals. Having said all that, I'd probably spend my money on another American Graffiti film, no matter what it's about.

i would sure be cool to see milner again.

  11. I know the original thing here was about a PREquel, not a REmake.

An AG prequel might not be so bad, as long as it stayed true to the original movie theme/plot.

re: remakes? I rarely watch them because most tend to stray from the original storylines, and IMO take away from the earlier versions. Only remake I've seen recently that I liked was Poseiden (2006), remake of 1972's The Poseiden Adventure.

it will never bother me if a prequel or a sequel is made or not made and if it is good or bad. i just love american graffiti and enjoy watching and talking about it. reading all the responces and putting them together has made me invision what a prequel would be like or could be like. in the garage or at a car show, american graffiti has always been a great conversation topic. i am thankful for george lucus for making american graffiti. he showed what it was like to him when he was young and why it was important to him. i like what his message had to say. when i was a teenager the police, teachers and some parents thought cruising and hotrods were more of a disease than a hobby or way of socializing.

Think an excellent remake would be as successful at the box-office now, as the original was in '73?

AG is prob my favorite movie ever ...i would love to see a prequel ...but unless you could get someone that looks identical to paul lemat...i think it would suffer

  16. Give me a break. The movie was a chick flick with cars in it. It had little to do with rods and everything to do with the emotional experience of being a teenager.

I would go and watch it, but weather or not it would be good is the question. I think the best idea would be to try and find mostly unknow actors again like the original American Graffiti.

Now THAT I would watch!

  22. Never said I wouldn't watch it but one should actually know what they are after. The movie wasn't a "car" movie it was about comming of age yet we all swoone over it like it was the greatest car movie ever made.

The two cars in question were not even that great, the duece was actually a very poorly constructed repaint and the five five wouldn't have been seen on the street in the era that the movie was set in.

It was a fun movie don't get me wrong just not a great hot rod movie as everyone implies.

outstanding idea...........i was very disapointed in "duece of spades" it was a glorified chick flick, not enough "street scene" and too much hoopla over a mediocre movie. so much was going on in the 50's Hot Rod scene, and especially in So Cal, the REAL STORY needs to be told.

What they also should do is make a short film tying in Two Lane Blacktop to American Graffiti.

    Like this:

The Driver and the Mechanic pulled up to the Modesto Junkyard. They got out and slowly walk over to a black 55 chevy.
    "This one" the Driver said
"I think we can drop a 427 in her and make her run" said the Mechanic
    "454" said the Driver
"alright 454, but I got to get the jets running right this time"
A man who work at the garage wearing a grease stained Ed Roth Shirt and a Red Coca Cola trucker hat came out of the building.
"Is this the one you want?" ask the man "It use to belong to a guy by the name of Falfa, he thought he could beat Milner..."
"Will take it" said the driver giving the man his gazzed out Stare.
"You sure, I got a 58 Bel Air, or a 57 Star chief both in better shape" asked the Man
"This one is fine" replied the driver.

Later it would show Denis Wilson(or who ever is the Mechanic in it) fixing up the Chevy and lots of racing and Nihilism.

great!! i like this. I just talked to a friend that works in the hollywood "news area" said he has heard nothing about the remake of A G. he said that its a famous movie for lots of reasons. one... the low budget, quality shoot, story , and "new"actors resulting in the gross box office hit, make this movie " famous history" with most movie makers!!

No need to make it now, you just gave us the whole movie. Cool premise though, nice thinking there.

I remake of AG......NO WAY...if that happened they would porbably use a freakin' honda as the "milner coupe"...besides no actor/actress could do this movie justice....they couldnt even do a prequel. Who would play milner or toad or any of those guys. Matt Damon? Ben Afleck? PLEASE!! there is no actor today worthy of these rolls nor would they know anything of the original movie anyway.

I've seen Two Lane Blacktop too many times

The primer painted 55 Chevy was crusing along Californias Cost, on a long empty highway.
"The 454 was a good idea after all, but I think we got a problem with the jets" said the Mechanic "When we get to the next gas station Ill take a look at them"
The driver kept his gaze, looking out ward at the road with his both hands on the wheel.
