Made me go read the rules- I did not realize rule number six.

    Rules:
    1. No profanity in subject lines
    2. No political/religious/racial posts
    3. No*****.
    4. All personal information listed on this board is private and protected. The HAMB does not sell this information and you are not privy to use it for your own reasons. Test us on this one and we will bite.
    5. New Users must fill out thier profiles. Every bit that you can. Simply click on "User Cp" above and get to work.
    6. New users must introduce themselves in the intro forum.

I always thought it was just an old right of passage- not an actual rule, my mistake.

  3. No worries Jim. provided me some humor as I cooked some Spanish rice.

Rules are for the mods to enforce. Sooooo many self-appointed mods!

Welcome aboard dude! You're obviously a rodder, that's all I need to know!

As far as the froggies are concerned, post a pic so we can see how they are made. Like someone else said, perhaps you can grind their collars down a smidge to get the set screws down to where they'll engage the carb inlet. You planning to install some sort of filters in them? I would....to help the cylinders live a long and happy life.

Can't help ya with the kick-down, my cars all have 3 pedals. :D

  5. Its pretty common for the scoops to have the setscrews either too high or broken out. As somebody said, drill a new hole lower and add a setscrew. No pictures needed:rolleyes:

I went to look at my Rochester J2s to see the lip. Yes it is small.

I also looked at a pair of early edmunds back draft air filters, and due to the tight quarters, they used tiny set screws that run real close to the edge of the filter body. It does not even have a "head" on the screws, it is just a straight screwdriver slot on maybe a #10 or #8 machine screw thread. Using such a small diameter, lets you get much closer to the edge.

That picture is not the early version. That's Figari's car now. The film version had front fuel intake on the carbs. Not that it matters, just sayin.

Grant, good luck with your build. I'm just finishing one myself. You will always get***** on the HAMB about the Coupe but more people dig it than not. And although not traditional, your automatic will make for some easy cruisin' None of us are 17 anymore and shifting that four speed makes for great racing but not so great in traffic.

Your problem with the scoops is common and like several have suggested, just re-drill the set screw a bit lower.

Would like to see pictures when you get them.

    Aloha

  9. I thought I was helping telling him he had the wrong intake, after all he did say he was building a CLONE.
For my next bit of advice you can all get*****ed.

    Doc.

I'll never understand why people say they're building a clone, and yet doing nothing similar to the actual car they're cloning...so with that out of the way, I'd like to announce that I'm going to be cloning the Bluesmobile...but all I have is a '66 Valiant with a slant 6...but otherwise it'll look just like the Bluesmobile...oh, and I'm also gonna clone the General Lee...using my '63 Dodge Custom 880...with a 383 and pushbutton torqueflite...and it'll be gloss black and lowered, without that stupid lettering on it or those dumb turbine wheels...

I disconnected mine, after the first time it had kicked down from 3rd to 1st at about 30mph and left me with soiled underwear. :D

I reconnected it later, after I got more used to the car, and that was a revelation.

I have a 4 carb setup and I think mech linkage is easier, although it's time consuming to get the pedal travel to match the full carb travel. I have the mock up disassembled right now but i'll put it back together for a pic if you want. Welcome, I think I skipped the intro also. Sorry.

dont worry about the kick down....i shift mine the way i want it to shift.....its more fun to reach down and pull it down a gear to pass or get on it anyway.....adds some driving to your auto******* car....ive never hooked one up on anything that wasnt stock...

  18. Now that you mention it I don't have one hooked up in my 54 sedan witht he T400 either!

welcome aboard...nothing wrong with a Milner clone/copy/recreation/etc. When people see it...they will think HOT ROD...and that's important.

As to wishing you still had your powerglide Vette...not really you don't....those things always sell last...and for less...4spds are what the buyers want, and it's one of the things that make early Vettes cool to drive. To me, 53-67 is "early". Don't care what transmissions any of the later cars have.

Hey beauishere...thanks again for the link to the milner coupe. It had some good photos and has given me some ideas, especially regarding the interior. I tried to post some photographs of my build, but my pictures are too big. (too many pixels, they won't download - not even my Avitar) Home computer has Vista and it*****s compared to the things I used to do on the old windows programs. When I get the right software downloaded, I'll post a build album. Thanks for the encouragement, greatly appreciated. I'm NOT Building a clone of the AG coupe, just MY car, that has the "apperance" of Milner's coupe in many ways. Not yellow, but PPG Liquid Crystal Cabernet, with a gloss black powder coated chassis. And thanks to all the H.A.M.B. members - rest****ured, I'll take your suggestions and not connect the kickdown cable. More later. GGG

I get asked all the time if mine is a Milner clone and its a Chevy 3 Window. Figure that. I guess it's a yollow thing. Ok a little info on the man a fre carbs early on man a fre, used early pontiac carbs, 1955 to 1598 large lip for air cleaner to attach, and no air cleaner stud. i am not a pontiac guy but I would think a clamp held the air cleaner in place. Here is a picture of the one i have. I am looking for 3 more for my man a fre. Check out my wanted add for olds and pont. part numbers. Also early olds had this type carb. I beleve the olds is a larger cfm but not sure. If your frogs mouths have a bosss for the screws do not re drill, shorten the base. Linkage is easy to build. It is stright linkage on each side with a cross bar to ty the two together. center bar should be adjustable up and dowen so it wont bind. Kick down run to inside gas pedal. Read up on it hear on the hamb. Sorry guys abought that intro thing beat me up too. pm if you need more info. good luck jim
