...Nice to share the pics...Looks like the steering wheel could use some attention this car definately shows best driving or sitting in the evening light...

Would I restore the wheel...sure, store the unbolted in a safe place...for provenance...

I know most people don't have anything to do with movies or film making, but there is a difference between a real thing and a movie prop. There is a difference between a movie prop and a real world car. That Merc is a prop that served its purpose, nothing more.

That pic was taken (by the looks of it) at the old downtown A&W, been a while since I p***ed by, but thinking G street maybe? around 12th/-14th?

Edit:, well hell, should have just looked at the banner closer...mercy....

I have read the do***ent, thank you...that did answer my question without a doubt...it's been quite some time since I've saw AG but many of the Vehicles have intrigued me and my discussion of what was or wasn't right is based on critique from those that were there in 62...There are many Threads on AG and CK and it seems as the more Hollywood moves away from 1965 the more those in the Know here will be critical of what is presented...

Slddnmatt was contacted by who ever owns it now, a few years ago about redoing it. Maybe he'll chime in and share whet he knows. I took pics of the awesome clone that was built, that was at the Merc Gathering, back in 09. I know Rik Hoving has a bunch of pics from that show.

Glad to know it still exists and is at least stored inside, although kinda sad to see it half-primered and under tarps.

I'd love to see it restored, but I'd be torn on how to do it. Does a guy make it true to movie condition, which wasn't all that good, or would you redo some of the crude work and finish it out with gl*** and whatnot? Hard to say.

I remember seeing it 30+ years ago on the Universal studios tour. It was parked in the back lot with other movie cars.

Brian Setzer lives near me and I have talked to him about this car. He had it cosmetically restored with new paint and bodywork. this was not that long ago maybe 35 years or so? how in the hell does a "special" car like this get treated so poorly that it is half in primer and sitting in a warehouse somewhere? I have cars with 30- 60 year old paint that still look good. One thing he told me about the car is that it was a mechanical nightmare and needed to have everything redone... sure did look better with whitewalls I thought.... again, how does a car like this fall into disrepair so fast????

I really love the way it looks in that pic when Setzer owned it. Similar enough to the movie, but nicer. I'd love to see it like that again. At least it still exists. As time goes on hopefully it's history doesn't fade away.

  16. I agree with Mark. I never understood how old customs, hot rods, movie cars, etc. end up discarded like garbage, or treated like they are worthless. All it takes is one owner who has the money or means to buy it, then brag about it or think "Well, look what I have" and it goes south. So many significant vehicles have been left to dust by owners who simply don't care. I have followed the bits and pieces of this storied car over the years, and I really hope it falls in the right hands. That version with whitewalls is pretty hot!
