Yeah Pastlane, those special hunting ponies! Every time I watch the movie I'm laughing when he says he has those damn ponies! That's cool you got a kid like that Dock. My son's is half interested in hot rods and would rather put on a video game.

I was talking with the wife last night about how Hollywood's 2007 version of American Graffiti would be scripted.

Steve: The reason he would be breaking up with his girlfriend would not be to date other people but he would be having questions about his sexual orientation.

Kurt: A liberal hip guy getting out of his hick town and going to a progreessive liberal college. The only one with sense to get out. Instead of '62's Citroen he would be driving a Prius or a Smart car

Terry The Toad: Would still be a dork and a doofus but the hollywood film makers would emphasize he was a Christian and a gun owner.

    Milner: A pedofile of course.

All the women: Hapless victims of male aggression. Terry the Toad would have raped Candy at the lake scene etc etc

The Pharoahs: Black or Hispanic gang bangers. The police would still be the bad guys of course harrasing the gang bangers.

The Cars: Evil polluting mechanical objects.

Water ballons: The 2007 version would be turned into drive by shootings.

squirting Shaving cream on the windshields: 2007 version-homeless men with sgueegees.

Any More? What about wolfman, Bob Alfalfa etc

    I'm wit'chew, bro. How's 'bout these:

    1. What Country singing duo, not famous yet and in need of money, rented Lucas their '57 Chevy for the movie?

    2. What time is on the clock on the studio wall when Curt visits The Wolfman?

Looks like I need a life, too!

Shit, I got a couple more:

    1. How much $$$ did Lucas want for Milner's coupe after the movie was made (and he couldn't sell it for that money to save his ass!) ?

    2. What was the name of the of the company who made the four-carb induction system used on the coupe's small block (Hint: It was only made for Chevy small blocks.)?

Somebody's gotta help me get a life!!!

Toad had an hour of training on that scooter before shooting and Milner tried to teach him before they went back on the set.

Toad thought he had it down but he let the clutch out while it was still in gear on accident......George Lucas liked it so much he left it in the movie (it was not written in the original script).

George asked the actors to just use some filler material, made up lines, while cruising. LeMat mentioned "flathead" as talking about Zudos car....but Zudo (an extra actor) and his ride along buddy had just had their heads shaved down the day before because Lucas required them to have the look....so Zudo thought Milner was making fun of his haircut and says "your mother!" in response to his flat top "flat head" haircut he just got.....

The coupe was bought for the movie for $1300 and offered after filiming but before the movie's release for $1500 With no takers!
It was originally full fendered but they took the fenders off, had the entire front end rebuilt and chromed and built the headers. The car was also repainted before filming began. Hard to believe that nobody wanted the car for $1500 back then, when it ended up as such an icon.

Because it was the summer of 62 in the hot Central Valley of California. They probably didn't have air conditioning, the temps were cooling off but still too hot to sleep and they didn't have to worry about being accosted by low lifes in their small town.

I don't know if it's been asked. The movie is about Lucas' last days of summer after high school in 1962. Does anybody know the name of the town Lucas went to high school in?...(there really is a Paradise rd. there too.)

How about the name of the town AG was filmed in?

You know, American Graffitti was made about my home town, Modesto California. Lucas grew up here. So did Gene Winfield. Yep good ol' Mo-town. Infact there is a fella down the road selling a '38 Pontiac (can't remember exactly) built by Winfield and George Barris, unfinished. Pretty rad. Anyway, back to your trivia.

Nah, started there and they shut it down. Filmed most of it in Petaluma. Still looks fairly similar after all these years.

KEWL! How about what town it was filmed in?

BTW, They outlawed cruising in Modesto about 10 (or more) yrs. ago. But in the first weeks of June there are a lot of "graffitti" car shows of varying sizes almost every night...

Oh yeah, they even have the balls to have a monument to celebrate the cruising tradition of Modesto...It's a bronze(?) 57 Chevy fender with a guy and a girl half sitting on it. The intersection where they put it is where 5 streets intersect and it's so busy you couldn't stop or slow down to look at it if you wanted to.

Petaluma, Santa Rosa, all the same. I love that Modesto is now cashing in on an event they outlawed years ago. Hell, the Fruityard only want's like $30. A bargin! Thats more than I spent on my engine. You know you can buy little versions of that statue for like ten grand. That's right, get in line.

Corectamundo! My grandparents lived in Petaluma in the '60s and early '70s, so I spent a good deal of time there. My Aunt and Uncle were high school sweetharts and both graduated from Petaluma High school in '65. According to my Uncle, Frates Rd, where the drag race scene was filmed is the spot where the locals would drag race back in his day.

The liqour store that gets robbed in the movie was Gilardi's Liquor and Sporting Goods. My Grandfather took me ther several times, I still have a fishing license that he bought there in 1966.

The shop on the opposite side of the theatre from the lot where they did the cop car stunt used to be the toy store that my Grandmother would take me to whenever I visited.

I probably posted all this before in this thread (maybe 3 years ago), but so what.

So this topic has been going for a while with lots of questions and opinions which has made it interesting. From what I remember wasn't that a skull hanging off the rear vision mirror( the cage in the car was only a half-cage)and I thought it had a 4 speed behind the 409 Chev with the dual quads.Another question, what was the number plate on the '55.Anyway here's some shots of the version I have at home which was supposed to be an exact replica of the original movie car.The T-shirt is one I've had for a long time,it's slowly falling apart.Keep on roddin'.

    Attached Files:

  26. They didn't ever really show the motor in the '55 did they? In Two Lane Black Top form it had an awesome 454, which wouldn't fit in the time line of AG, not to mention a totally custom made suspension. The guy that built it said later that had he known what they were going to do with it, he wouldn't have spent so much time and effort. Anyone know who that guy was?

  27. It's funny that the model has an alternator on it.

  28. Skull.....or shrunken head?
Quick, someone pop in their disc and find out.

The AG 55 still had the BBC in it during the filming.............thats why the engine was never shown. There were 3 cars built for 2Lane Blacktop, then 2 of them were converted for AG.............One was converted back to the 2 Lane trim as it survives today.

  30. The last I heard the AG 55 Chevy is here in the MD./PA. area. The guy who owned last time I saw it had totally screwed the car up. The interior is totally differant along with a ton of other changes. It pisses off pretty much anyone who see's the car.

The TLB car is also in MD. http://groups.msn.com/twolaneblacktophomepage/messageboard.msnw

Above is a website devoted to the TLB '55 with some talk about the AG '55.
A few years ago they had both cars together at the Timonium indoor show. It was pretty cool to see them together.
