[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Toad asks Debbie what school she goes to... she says "Dewey". In the 60's... this was slang for what high school? [/ QUOTE ] Modesto High School [/ QUOTE ] Nope. Not even on the same side of town. Sam.
Here are two related Q's; 1. What was Milner's license plate number? 2. What's the significance of that number?
Link: You got it !!!!! I saw AG when it first came out and have seen it at least once each year since then. Like all of us.I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!! My favorite parts are when Milner makes the coupe hop around when he nails the gas.You can see the thing lift up on the springs and kind of jerk around.Kind of like a AA/FA.
Nobody diggin' deep enough to get mine? One actress from "American Graffiti" played in a movie with one of the actors from "Two Lane Blacktop"...marking another link between the two movies! (The 55 Chevy being the more famous one!) What movie featured the AG actress and the TLB actor?? And what kind of car did that actress drive in the film I'm refering to??? Ya need a HINT for this one? Okay...early 80s film that inspired a TV series by a different name! Work on THAT one over lunch!!
Ok, name one of the cars (year, make and model) that was parked on the streets, during the cruising scenes, that wasn't manufactured before 1962... hint, it was gold. No takers on the Dewey reference? (you'll more than likely have to do some research). How about this one... what month was the film supposedly set in? Ooooooo, that's a tuffy! Sam.
My favorite part in the movie Is Milner and his buddy with a t bucket sitting in the parking lot. John says Later to him and the big lankey dopey guy says "alligator" and his walk back to his t bucket cracks me up for some reason. And when John says " I'm gonna stay right here! having fun! Thats me here at our shop the funnest place on earth. Tyler is 4 and already corrupted for life. He cashed in his change at the bank before we went to james dean. he has 72 dollars to spend. so I took him out to look at his merc I said what do you want to buy he said a steering wheel. It was cool he looked all over the swap for one. but no luck there were no cool wheels. so if anybody has anything lemme know. The motor is olds so I think were gonna go with some kinda mid 50's olds. The car I bought for 200 bucks and people can't really tell that it's a merc but we got 11 years to build it! later drew
Susanne Sommers, drove the white 55 T-bird. The T-bird was a stick and the owner was really anal about it (according to the extras on the DVD).

[/ QUOTE ] ...and wasn't the driver of the white '60 Caddy the actual owner of the car, and was gettin all nervous about Paul Lemat running across the hood all the time?
Okay...to help y'all out some more, here's a quote from the movie I'm thinking of... "He checks his sanity with wrist watch!" "What do you check YOURS with...a dip-stick?!" Any MORE, and I might as well TELL ya!!!
...and a 70 Impala on the street during the cruise scene... Also... "Dewey" was the slang term for Thomas Downey High school where I went, my mom went (she graduated with George Lucas in 1962 there)... and most of the elders that I grew up living next to as a kid... But I'll leave the question up to the experts as far as what month the movie was set in... Sam.
I know it was summer-ish. When they filmed it, they were all wearing summer clothes, and were freezing because it was fall or something...
Being an "east coaster" I didn't know that about Downey High. Why Dewey?? Since the movie takes place as Steve and Kurt are heading off to college,it must be late August. No?
Hey C9 I heard the actor playing Toad did not know how to ride a scooter and actually crashed into the trash can trying to stop that Vespa GS, they thought it was funny so left it in the film. Here is my question, what career did the character of Bob Falfa go on to?
[ QUOTE ] Easy...the 55 Chevy was the same one in both movies. It had a tunnel-rammed 454 in it, but the engine wasn't shown in Graffiti because it wouldn't have existed back in 1962! [/ QUOTE ] No way, really?! I guess I shouldn't be so surprised, just am. Love that '55. OK, got one for you guys: the sock hop band, Danny and the Continentals, I think they are, what city did they travel "all the way from"? Though I know the answer to that one, I've been trying to figure this 'un out: the girl riding shotgun with Falfa, when he pulls up alongside Terry, she says something like, "A-kay-dee?" I've replayed that scened, it's as mysterious to me as CCR "Chasing down a hoo-doo-they".(Even John Fogerty couldn't decipher that one, when Conan O'Brien asked).

It's definatley September. Steve and Kirk already graduated. That was the Freshman dance they went to. Had to be the beginning of the school year. Who would through a dance after graduation, the prom and all that stuff.

[/ QUOTE ] Charlie Martin Smith, he was so funny as Terry the Toad, I'm glad they left that blunder in there. He's been in a lot of good films, "Never Cry Wolf" and "The Untouchables" are among the best, I think.
Id say september too, just like many others have said, the dance and leaving for college. Junkyard dog asked what was the dogs name mentioned in the movie. Im sure hes refering to Ol' Ginger "sick as a dog" I almost piss em when Toad is shoutin at his shoes behind that car. and then he looks up, hair ALL fucked up and glasses broke, and says...."oh rats..." It kills me!! Heres one. Milner just kicked the 55's ass at the end. milner and toad are walking back and toad is trying to convience milner how much he won by, how did he describe how easy it was for john to win?
[ QUOTE ] know it was summer-ish. When they filmed it, they were all wearing summer clothes, and were freezing because it was fall or something... [/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure, but I do know they covered the Universal Studio so it was night the whole time. Lucas tried to film it in chronological order. When they look tired at the end of the movie, it's because they are, they felt like it'd been one endless night. Someone asked about the man-o--the-cloth and his '60 Chevy at the liquor store appearing elsewhere, was it right in the beginning, in front of Mel's? "Listen, Professor, if he can't find me, then he ain't really worth racing, right?"
Fat Hack, Warren Oates and Candy Clark were both in Blue Thunder. Is that the one you are thinking of ?
