Heres one. Milner just kicked the 55's ass at the end. milner and toad are walking back and toad is trying to convience milner how much he won by, how did he describe how easy it was for john to win?

[/ QUOTE ] Said they might as well put him (Falfa) in a wheelchair and send him on home. Man, I just that movie a few minutes ago (yer post got me to watching it again), can't remember the line, already. Terry basically told him Milner had him from the start. I love the way Terry picks up his spirits.
It's funny hearing the girls in that Stude (that Carol was in) talk about Turlock High- I went to Cal State Stanislaus in Turloco, often seems like that town's not even on the map in most people's minds. Great post, Monster, lotsa fun.

Very good, SimonSez!! That was it! Candy drove a Vega in that one!

(and the movie inspired the TV series "Airwolf")

What song is playing when Wolfman does his "weather" report?

Towed the Wolfmans broken down limo to the caddy dealer a very long time ago. He was bigger than life for everybody. And one of the nicest and truest people you would ever meet. I can hear that voice now. RIP

Okay...early 80s film that inspired a TV series by a different name!

Work on THAT one over lunch!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Blue Thunder inspired Airwolf?

    -Airwolf (1984)
Created by Donald P. Bellisario, who had already had such hits as 'Magnum p.i.' (1980-1988), 'Airwolf' followed the adventures of a hi-tech helicopter and it's reclusive pilot, Stringfellow Hawke.

Bellisario developed Airwolf (early working titles: Blackwolf, Lonewolf), from the loose concept of a third season 'Magnum p.i.' episode he'd previously written, titled 'Two Birds Of A Feather' (1983) - an unsold Pilot about a treasure-hunting, adventure-loving ace combat pilot named Sam Houston Hunter (William Lucking). Bellisario had come up with the concept after Lucking played a similar character in a couple of episodes of another Bellisario series, 'Tales Of The Gold Monkey' (1982-3). After the proposed new series wasn't picked up, Bellisario took the bare bones of the concept, and eventually developed the premise into 'Airwolf'.

Airwolf wasn't the only "super helicopter" on air at the time of it's debut – there was also hi-tech Police surveillance chopper 'Blue Thunder' (1984), spun-off from the 1983 movie of the same name; but even with that series having a big-screen film to kick it off, Airwolf generally emerged to be seen as the "ultimate" super-helicopter series, with - at it's peak - it's clever, cathartic scripts paling Blue Thunder's much wider, less serious take

Damn, learn something new every day!

I'd always heard that Blue Thunder was the inspiration for Airwolf! I didn't like the TV show (Airwolf), but the movie was pretty cool!!

Warren Oates (GTO from "Two Lane Blacktop") was great as the police Captain...that line about the dipstick makes me laugh every time!!!

Hey you guys with the DVD...can you ID the trans in the 55 that Falfa crashes, from the pan (you can see it when it rolls)?
Is it a Powerglide or a Turbo Hydro?

  12. It's a TH400... and the car doesn't have large radiused wheel wells like the REAL car... they scabbed that motor in by evedence of the cross member... and the silver painted stock wheels... and yes guys, it was September. [IMG] There is a sign on a fence when they leave the dance that says "Welcome back"...

Ok, there is a reference to a dam in one of the scenes where Kirt is riding around with Bobby and his old girlfriend (about going there for an orgy) what is the name of the dam and why is that name used. (extra points for this one!!!!)

Also, when Toad picks up Debbie, what west coast candy store are they parked in front of?

Oh, and the Gold car is not an Impala liks I said... I think it is a Caprice...

And... here's a good one... what does "Holsteen" pull John over for? And why is it ironic that he would do that???? (best question yet)

....and what is the name of the radio station in the movie... and the station in Modesto (from the 50's and 60's) that it portrays???

Big Jim, isn't the tranny in the 55 a TH400? Kinda funny since that also predates the movie set by half a decade.

Stockton, which is a 15 min. drive north. Not quite "all the way from...", really.

Yea Humboldt Cat, Thats a great sceen! I love it when John and Toad are almost to the coupe after the crash, and Toad has just told him about havin the bitchinist car in the valley. soon after that John looks at Toad and then looks down at the ground and says under his breath in a chuckle, "look at your glasses" [IMG]

I'm glad to see everyone having fun with this post, theres some real good stumpers!!

Heres another one: The pharohs enter the sceen with Kirt sitting on the car. He says, "...What are you doin creep?" (LOVE the way the dudes smoke is hanging from his lips) Kirt answers, "Who, me?" What was the reply?

One more: how much wire did toad need to hot wire "his" car?

Gotta take a SWAG at this one.

I used to think that Kurt said Gallo DEN untill I read the script and saw it said DAM.

And if you were going by phonetics, you might have thought he said GALLOW, as in where bad guys were hung by a rope, but no, the script says Gallo, as in CHEAP WINE.

So, between the ORGY and CHEAP WINE references about a secluded local, I'd guess that Galo Dam is where the local BEATS hung out and did there own thing.

    So, what's the signifigance?

FWIW, in San Marcos, Texas, my group of pals hung at Five Mile Dam. Way way out and down a 5 mile road. Sorta like getting to Bo Huffs place except all that was at the end was a bunch of drunk college kids.

Link, CS is cool guy speak for Chicken Shit.

Using the letters like that forces the un-cool Carol to ask what it means so John can drop the punch line on her.

Oh I know what it means MB that is just one of my favorite lines from the movie [IMG]
(take notice to the cool guy speak? hehe.)

I remember getting pulled over by a cop when I was in high school and I used the same line on the girl that was with me. I, of course, sat there laughing out loud as she looked at me with a face of puzzlement. Probably wondering what the hell she got herself into. [IMG]

  22. The band was Flash Caddilac and the
    Continental Kits(Kids?).
They later apeared on Happy Days as
    Johnny Fish and the Fins.
    I heard they still play.

  23. Yep... it's Gallo dam... as in the cheap wine... Gallo Winery is located in Modesto, the town where the film was set in... and its' ironic that he says that Milner's licence plate light is out... because there isn't even one on the car!!

The Candy store is a good one... Because it only really showed up on the DVD version and the big screen version (when it came out)... it's a little fuzzy and hard to see it on the VCR version...

Falfa ended up a Motorcycle cop, also whatch the Liquor store scene toad changes shoes, somebody forget which pair he started the scene in. As for falfas car's engine that what ends all the fighting about who was winnin, Falfa couldn't have beaten Milner cause his motor didn't exist in '62 . I LOVE THIS MOVIE! my pop took me to see in the theater when i was 7

While on this subject "More A/G" the only good stuff was the DRAGS! And when they said Carol always ended up with the greaser guys , still carrying the torch for Milner . And hated the end seeing milners car go over the hill knowing what waited on the other side .

RumblerRock, I'll have to look for the shoe change with Toad, good eye!

Heres another eye catcher. When John and Carol are cruisin, Carol is telling him her revenge story when she used foam on a guys windows and he "zoomed straight into the canal"

She says, "I still got some, so dont try anything!"

Well, all through the story, up to that point, check out Johns smokes in his sleeve, the back of the Camel pack is facing us.

Then Carol squirts John on the nose with the foam. Right there the pack is showing the front side of the camel pack!

You can tell they had to redo that sceen, and I'm sure the laugh from Carol is genuine, its so funny! lol [IMG]

IMO I think one of the reasons John Milner is liked and loved so much in this movie is not so much his car or hair, but because hes a real 'guy'. He cares for people and isnt a 'badass hell raiser'. He lets Toad cruise with him, walks with Carol in the junkyard and helps Falfa out after beating him.

Hell, he even could of kicked that dudes ass that was pounding Toad in the parking lot, but he slugged him just enough to make him stop, didnt kick him while he was down, just a motion. I thought that was very cool of him.

I dont know about any of you guys or gals, but I shut the movie off right as kirt gets on the plane at the end. I dont like reading about milner getting killed by a drunk driver. I just like old fashion happy endings.

(and hey RumbleRock, I just watched the liquor store sceen, and I didnt see any shoe change(?) is it an obvious difference or are the two pairs of shoes very simular?)

Hey Monster , I gotta find it but there is one scene where toads shoes switch from White bucs to saddle shoes , i guess i'll just have to watch it again, DAMN.

  30. cool thread! i can't add any questions but, ya'll know the scene where the cop car gets its rear end pulled off? it was filmed in the parking lot behind my wife's shop in petaluma. every time i pull in and out i think of the scene... i've even checked the ass end of my car, i know a lot of knuckle heads! also, the scene where milner stops in front of the theatre, that as well as other scenes were filmed in my home town of san rafael. my pop took me downtown a couple of times to check out the filming. that is where and when i got the hot rod bug.
