I'll add one.. Towards the end of the movie Richard Dryfus is waiting by a pay phone (Sleeping in his car) The phone rings. How many times before he answers? What kind of car did he have?

He is sleeping in a Citoen 2CV
2CV's were nasty little slow cars made in France.
Altough it could be fun to gut one and stuff a V8 in it ( a chevy starter would have more torque than the original engine).
If they used one in American Graffiti it is OK for the HAMB Drags, right?

    Gloria Katz
    Willard Huyck.

Ok here is an easier one

How much did the sales man want to give Terry for the 58 Impala (this is from my script)
    Salesman:
"I'll give you $--- for her on a practically new Corvette... and on top of this, I'm going to knock of -% off the low price of this beautiful Vette. I'm talking about only $xx down and $xx a month. Now how am I able to make you this incredible offer? I'll tell you! I'm forced to move all the sporty cars off the lot as a quick as I can.. Boss's orders. He doesn't want 'em. I think its a mistake, but what can I do? I'm forced to make a deal, so what do you ...."

Terry begins to get worried as the salesman begins to fondle his new Merc. He becomes frightened as the Salesman attemps to drag him over to one of the Vettes. Finally Terry breaks away and jumps back into his car and the salesman continues to race on as Terry drives away.

So what was the down payment and monthly payment?

(Oh ya in the script Terry was supposed to be drving a Merc (Steve was supposed to own a Merc) The Pharoahs a Pontiac

To reply to hotrodphotos first question, I believe it was three rings. And on the third, he wakes up and is totally alive and sprinting to the phone! From a deep sleep to total action, its so like all of richard dreyfus's charactors.

To answer Boones, I think its "ONE thousand dollars!" I cant remember the down payment or monthly payment. But the best is right before Toad rips out of there, he says, "Just leave me alone for God sake!"

Here is how it describes the first meeting between Terry and Falfa..

MAIN STREET - TERRY - MERCURY
Terry stops for a red light. A very mean-looking 55 chevy (blwon, scooped and slicked) pulls up next to him. The driver, BOB FALFA, has a girlfriend sitting almost on top of him. Terry challenges the chevy by revving his engine.

TRAVELING - DRAG - TERRY, FALFA - MERC & CHEVY
Bob Falfa doesn't even look over. He revs his engine, which sounds like a cross between a Boeing 707 and a SuperChief. Terry can't believe it, he turns down the radio, listens to the monster. But the challenge is n. He sits up, dries his hands on his shirt, grasps the wheel--

the light changes, and the chevy bolts into the intersection in a cloud of smoke creating that incredible Hi-powered dinosaur scream heard earlier in the Drive-In. Terry starts off, coughing through the smoke, eating Falfa's dust.

The Chevy distances Terry in Steve's Merc by four car lengths per second. Terry can't believe it. He finally slows and coasts to the next stop light. Where the Chevy is already waiting for him. Terry looks over into the snotty face of Falfa's girlfriend.

    GIRLFRIEND:
    Isn't he neat?

I know this isn't really trivia... but when does the second AG take place? As far as I can remember, it is something like, 67 or 68... But I noticed in the original, it says Milner died from a drunk driver in like, 63. I could totally be wrong on this though.

"More" happens over 4 New Years Eves. I thought that it was:

1964 - Drag strip, Milner dies
1965 - Toad in Viet Nam
1966 - Riots at the College
1967 - Candy Clarks Hippy - Singer life

  11. Did any one notice the scene when Milner was cruisin and the guys pull up next to him and tell him to watch out for the cop in Jerry's cherry.Carol is in the car with him but he did not pick her up yet.You can see her trying to hide behind Milner. Also the reason Carol was laughing in the coupe was, originally the water balloon was suppose to hit the window next to her and blow up but , instead it hit her so they left it in.I thought the car that didn't fit was about a '67 gold caprice parked on main in one of the cruisin scenes. Also the coupe has a couple scenes where it has wipers and a couple where it don't.No trivia yet but I'll think of some.

  12. I grew up in Salinas. As a teen in the sixties we use to "drag Main Street" as cruising was referred to locally at the time. We use to turn around at a Mel's drive in parking lot. I just wonder how many Mel's there were at one time scattered through the state. Seeing Mel's in AG always brings back memories.

Well here is the answer to my questions

First, the proposed name of the movie was originally going to be American Graffiti (Sage of the Low Riders)

As for what the salesman was going to offer toad..$525 and he could have bought the vette for $98 down and $98 a month...

    From "Born on a Bayou".
"Chasing down a HOO DOO there"
A HOO DOO is a swamp ghost or boogy man.
So he's trying to find something that isn't real...
Chasing down a HOO DOO is like searching for Bigfoot...

There were actually 3 55 Chevys in Two Lane Blacktop.
One of them was used in American Grafitti.
The 55 that was wrecked was one that was bought for American Graffiti, wrecked and sent to the junkyard. It wasn't in Two Lane Blacktop.

  20. How many times did you guys see the movie in the days before video? Between 1975 and 1979 I did see it 14 times! When I was 13 I rode my bicycle as long as 30 miles, one- way on Swedish gravel country roads, just too watch the movie. I think that movie is one of the main reasons that I became the way I am.

oh yeah haha, but the actor went on to be a carpenter until star wars haha, sigh, yeah cop in more american grafitti

  24. lucas had a bit of a fixation with thx 1138...he used it in star wars in the bit where they met up with the hairy chewbacca thing...he was in cell 1138...the thx bit comes from his sound engineer who was named tom holman (something about tom holmans eXperiment)
also while i`m on a role, in the post production of graffiti
lucas apparently asked one of his sound engineers for reel2 dialogue2 and the engineer was reported to have replied with R2 D2....harrison ford was a carpenter on the set for star wars and was asked to try out for his part....dont get me wrong i`m not a star wars nerd in fact i`ve only ever seen 30 minutes of the first one... i watched a program about lucas on biography channel not long ago

  28. What is the skull in Falfa's '55 hanging from??

Also, who is the main character in the movie?

The answer lies in the fact that you hear wolfs howling throughout the movie... when there wasn't a wolf within' earshot of down town Modesto... ever.

Also, why do you hear train whistles and trains stopping in the movie?

The skull, I believe, swung from the rear view mirror.
As the saying goes: the Wolfman is EVERYwhere, but I don't think of him as the main character. But much of the movie does focus on Kurt, the person at a crossroads in life, the extremely introspective writer-type. I can picture Lucas identifying himself most with Kurt, so I'm guessing that's the unknown Main Character.
The trains... living in Turlock, the night train is such a familiar sound. Even living in Redding the night trains made me think of the central-central Valley. Plus, the sound of it intesifies the scene of Kurt sneaking around the car lot, under the cop car.
"Kurt, I hope you'll take a bit of this place with you when you go."
    "I think I already have..."

The correct answer was indeed THREE rings..he picks it up on the third. And that IS a Citroen. Why the Hell do I know this and not something important?
