Bo Hopkins starred in another classic "car movie" with a huge "car movie actor/stunt driver" what was the movie? clue ...initials S M
Not a question per se, but an observation...One of my favorite cars in the whole movie is that badass looking yellow 56 Chevy with the driver sittin' low in it, as Milner is cruising the strip in the beginning of the movie. Anyone have info on the car?
I just saw the movie for the first time, thought it was good, I did not like "more american graffiti". My neighbor owns the Impala that was in the movie. CoolRide
The Getaway with Steve McQueen form '72.. I thought it was White Lightning..but that didn't make sence with the SM.. I havn't seen the Getaway in YEARS!
There's a question! I've searched but could never find a picture or description of Darrel Starbird's Superflex moonbeam, or whatever it was...
Thanks man! Course, I cant take all the credit, everyone else here has post..ed..... ah, hell... Ill take all the credit! haha
"George Lucas included a tip of the hat to Starbird in his 1973 film American Graffiti in which a character named Toad comments about his friend's 1958Chevrolet Impala, "This may even be better than Darryl Starbird's superfleck moonbird!" In reality, there is no such car." http://www.worldhistory.com/wiki/D/Darryl-Starbird.htm Damn, guess I can stop looking for pictures of the superfleck moonbird now. Too bad, it sounded pretty cool.
The Getaway was on Speed's "Lost Drive In" over the weekend. They might repeat it during the day later on in the week, they ran the other half of the bill ("Bullitt") today. One thing that bugged me was when Milner is walking through the junkyard, the cars all look too new to be stacked up in a messy pile, some of them would have been just about brand new in '62. Which makes sense, most cars lasted around 10 years or so (last time I was in a yard I checked out inspection stickers). They probably just went out and filmed it in whatever place would let them do it, though, it's an understandable thing. On yeah, the post that called the Citroen a "Princess Car" ... LOL... For some reason I like "Return To Macon County" at least as much, if not more, even though it's kind of a shitty movie it's fun to watch.
Joes Merc is still out there. The story I have heard is. A guy bought it and his son killed himself in it the car has been sitting ever since. I also understand Bo Hopkins is in contact with the guy trying to buy it to take to autograph sessions but the guy wount sell it yet. I have a pic of the merc sitting in a yard it looks rougher than it did. Hope this Helps. Great topic I am building a Graffiti coupe as close to Milners as I can. See you on Paradise Road!!!!
The Man A fre was on it in the second movie! ( I am pretty sure) And As for your tire question 800/850 14 Scat trax Cheater slicks sold by jc penny Good one!!!!
Do you meen the motor shot that was used in California Kid. They spray painted cardboard black and held it behind the motor so it would look like the kids car. I beleive they also used a shot of the dash (its been awile sine I have see it)
You are all doing very well with the quiz. I thought I was the only nut who watches it at least once a week to get inspired. Question What does the pin say hanging from Milners rear view mirrior???
This post has been going for well over 2 years now!!! What is the longest running post in HAMB history? Ryan??? Matt
Stump #2. Toad is at the liquor store to buy a pint of Ol' Harper. The first person that pulls up is an old man (65 or 70ish). Toad just asks him the time and the old man tells him. 12:15am
Yeap a dang good picker upper. I saw AG in the theater 23 times, and watch a couple times a year. This movie was the story of our lives thru the teen years. It makes me be young again
